The idea of going to a bar anywhere in East London fills me with dread, and Bathhouse Bar is a shining example of why that is. I find it enormously offensive to be charged £7 to get into a damp basement and be served warm beer. As is so often the case, the draught beer had 'run out' meaning that everyone is forced to buy the over expensive bottled stuff. Although I admit at £4 a bottle it could be worse, I'd still expect it to be cold. Although you could always opt for an over theatrically poured spirit drink in what looks suspiciously like Ikea glassware. The biggest annoyance of this and other place like it is that with the amount of money the rake in with entry fees and drinks, you'd think they could spend a bit of cash on the sound system. But alas. They have not. I spent much of the evening wondering if my ear drums would survive after being pummeled with the higher frequency range of The Beatles' 'help.'add to all this that it's full of skinny jeans clad indie kids with an attitude problem and you really do have a recipe for an early exit and a nice cup of tea in front of the telly.
Went to the Bathhouse on Saturday for the Golden Birdcage night - I was a bit disappointed as they didn't seem to play much of the music advertised, it was mostly r&b stuff which isn't my thing. The venue looked great inside though, and I'd go back if they played better music.
Came to The Bathhouse this Friday for Boom Boom and had an ***amazing*** night! The food was great and the entertainment was so much fun! 'You're Simply The Best!' playing over and over again was hilarious.
Nice touch was that we all got a cocktail on arrival - really started off the night! Will definitely be coming back here with the girls for cocktails - very worth the travel to get here.
The club was playing swing and had us all up and dancing. Left at 3am to attempt to get home at a reasonable hour...oops!
Highly recommended - best night out in a while.
Went to the Bathhouse this Sat was so Fun got in no problems walked down the stairs to the most amazing sight ever the place is seriously good!! Music was fun and pretty much danced all night only breaking to get drinks which were £3.80 for a rum and coke me and my mates had a great night !!
Horrifyingly rude bouncer upon entry to a friend's birthday party. He even went so far as to say 'Italians are known to cause trouble". Hmm racist comments are not a good way to begin the night.
Friends who had confirmed entry waited for 50 minutes in the cold with a rude woman loving the 'I'm in charge of the guestlist' power trip looking disinterested as we tried to explain.
The music was not great. Generic, obvious hits from a laptop DJ. The venue is interesting but the kitschy, refined cabaret club is done better elsewhere.
To add insult to injury the birthday girl had her present (a riding crop- highly amusing) confiscated!! It was returned to her broken. I can safely say am never returning to this venue. (Sun 16th Jan 2011)
appallingly rude and uninterested bar staff who were clearly annoyed at their peace disturbed by having to serve drinks, compounded by uptight and unnecessary bouncers/killjoys. Avoid.
I love this place! Stumbled upon it last Friday and absolutely loved it. Drinks are fantastic and it's just a really cool little hangout. Music was solid too
In the daytime, this is a very cool coffee shop with the BEST coffee in london. And it comes with a smile :) and they have a record player... And it's cheaper than starbucks!
I spent a night at the Bathhouse on Saturday for a friend's birthday, as far as I know she had no trouble getting us all on the guestlist, and I must admit it was incredible. I came in drunk because I was low on money, but the drinks did look very good and it was around £10 for a cocktail I think. The atmosphere was great, and the music was fantastic too- my friend and I were talking before we went out how we wished we could find a club that only played music we like, such as old classics and more obscure rock and roll vintagey stuff, and my god we found it here! Could not stop dancing practically all night. Only complaint I have is that it was far too hot downstairs- you could feel yourself sweating as soon as you walked in even when wearing a tank top, but whatever, its a club. Loads of people in there- quite a good, mixed crowd with lots of rich types who would normally frequent places like Cuckoo in Mayfair. The staff were really nice and not pushy or agressive like in some other higher-end clubs. There was a lovely photographer who snapped us but always asked before, and no one seemed to mind that we were going mad in the smoking area and falling around everywhere. I went with 20+ people, which was probably a bonus- I think its the kind of place where you need to be in a large crowd in order to not loose each other as the venue is so packed. I salute you Bathhouse!
I had a great time on saturday. It was fun, and its a cool venue. However I do have a couple of points that I think should be improved on - so management if you are reading, please take note! The bar tender on the main bar didnt have a clue what he was doing. We wanted some cocktails, but half the cocktails were unavailable due to some ingredient being out of stock. We then ordered a couple of raspberry mojitos, except he made them without raspberries, and then clained they had run out. This was after he spilt one he had just made all over the counter. We didnt order any more cocktails after that. I have recently been to a B@1 bar, you should visit to see how they make cocktails. It's bloody fantastic. The bar is always packed but you will get your cocktail in 5 mins at most!
I enquired about a group booking here recently and I must say I was appaulled by how I was dealt with. I had to chase a response and when I asked a few questions it seemed like a hardship for anyone to answer me. It was even suggested that I should maybe go elsewhere.. clearly they do not need the business.
Had a brilliant night here on a Saturday for my birthday. Staff were all wonderful and so friendly - really went out of their way to make me and my friends feel welcome and make sure we enjoyed ourselves. The booth we hired looked beautiful and was good value once you included the free drinks. Drinks on the whole were reasonably priced and the cocktails were great. And the music was brilliant - we danced pretty much non stop from 10 until three - a great variety with something for everyone if you've got a mixed group. Would thoroughly recommend it for a great night out and will be coming back!
my fiance took me to the bath house for dinner and we had such a brilliant night. its such a beautiful place. i loved it so much i told my fiance he should have proposed to me there! i think its the secrecy and sexy french chic style that makes the bath house so decadent and romantic. the candles, quirky music, and warm bright staff made us feel so cosy and welcome. They seem to know alot about the impressive wine selection that they have too. The food was simple but hearty and satisfying. i would definitely go back. In fact I am going to ask my fiance to take me there for our anniversary next week.
My family and I had a delightful meal at The Bathhouse recently. Having literally stumbled across it. I had a delicious baked Camembert starter and my son said it was one of the best burgers he's ever had! We were looked after so well by the staff. The manager/owner even came over to say hello when I enquired into the history of the building. The interior so luxurious and quaint, with beautiful candels flickering everywhere- this made it quite difficult to leave. You almost felt as if you were back in the Restoration period of France! Tres chic!
went last saturday night and i literally didnt stop dancing the entire night. every tune was banging-and im a dj so i know my music! the drinks were really reasonable. quite cheap compared to most bar/clubs in london. was actually quite jealous of the long haired dj standing in his huge gold birdcage in the middle of the dance floor! very cool...people were surprising laid back and up beat-something i didnt expect from the scenster types of east london. im normally more of a west-london clubber. but this place so effortlessly has all the charm, personality and sexiness a west london club so desperatly tries to achieve. crackin place.
I went to the bath house recently after a friend recommended it. I have to say, I had one of the best nights out Ive had in ages! Firstly, the location is perfect-so close to where i normally go out and Liverpool st tube. It is an absolutely stunning venue. A gorgeously decadent and romantic hidden gem. Ive just booked to have my 25th birthday party there-so looking forward to it. the music is the coolest of cool. The staff were helpful and warm without being invasive. I just loved the cosy and sensual vibe it has. every where u look there's something cute and pretty to look at-and that's including the punters! Simple hearty yummy food. The Pizza is particularly good as they cook it in a real stone oven.
Went to Bathhouse Bar on a Friday was amazing full of great people the staff were fun and friendly. Great night out everyone should check it out! Also ate at the restaurant was great value for the most amazing steak and a pretty good wine list too! A place for all to try!
Had the best New Years Eve here. Full of hot people and snappy dressers...I felt right at home!
The staff were are really friendly and the music was excellent - literally every track was a winner. Definitely my new favourite place in London!
Really cool venue with cool staff and a good atmosphere. Came here on a Saturday night with a group of friends and loved the music...AND the fact its open until the early hours. Definitely recommend if your into your indie/rock'n'roll nights.
Nice venue, shame about the staff. The Bath House is as beautiful as described and in a great location.
However, the amazing cocktail list has been removed (why??) and apart from one lovely bar lady the staff are rude and unhelpful.
It's very much a case of who you are with the Bath House, if you're not a friend of someone who works there, don't expect to be treated with anything but snotty contempt.
A real shame as if this was run by nice, charming ladies and gentlemen it would be perfect. Also there are only 2 ladies toilets, resulting in hours of queuing!
Worst Club EVER. Made only just bearable by the DJ who was the only saviour of a terrible club full of complete posers and dubious outfits, Including what seemed to be the manager who must not have a mirror in his whole house otherwise he wouldn't have gone out dressed like THAT.
The drinks are pretty expensive £4.50 for a single rum & coke, which is OK, but you expect then functioning and nice toilets ( I think a decorating overhaul is needed, horrible tiny loo with girls spraying hairspray like crazy so no-one can breathe) and friendly staff and bouncers.
Instead the staff were vacant and the bouncers unfriendly to say the least. This club is a last resort, no atmosphere at all.
The most beautiful venue in London!!!! Attention to detail is amazing.
Everything is so pretty, and the bar staff is very cute and extra friendly. Wicked music and hot crowd.
Amazing hidden Jewel of the city!!
Tucked up in Bishopsgate churchyard surrounded by sky-rise, is the beautiful tiled Turkish bath house.
I have just been to 'the Boom Boom Club' Burlesque night now at the venue every Sunday, starring Kitty Bang Bang, Roxy Velvet and Vicky Butterfly.
Wow. GO. You must. Everything is glorious there.
Fabulous cocktails and great bar staff, CLASS ACT. Definitely worth a look. I'll be back.
We had a great time there - it's a cool place and the cocktails....
ok for a city place, but a bit on the small side, expensive drinks, had to wait ages to be served ,
not exactly in the same league as the rest of shoreditch, but im sure the city workers will be ok with that.
