Top-notch bartenders, service with a smile and a killer cocktail menu make the Be at One Putney cocktail bar in Putney a recipe for success.

The Venue
A reputation for a buzzy atmosphere, great drinks at affordable prices, and lack of pretentiousness has won the Be at One bars fans across London, and the latest Putney addition does not break the mould. Right on the high street, Be at One Putney is fun and flirty, decked out with a simple, sexy decor. Think giant gilded mirrors, funky rectangular cocktail tables, ruby red uplights and brown leather benches. There’s little competition for a cocktail bar in Putney so the already thriving throng of after-work revellers and weekend socialites looks set to continue. And with great happy hours, there’s no doubt the masses (and bargain hunters) will be pleased.

The Atmosphere
While you could stop by for a quiet drink during the week, don’t expect to have much space to yourself on Friday, Saturday or Sunday nights. The bar is quite small and on these nights it’s likely to be packed with trendy, chatty twentysomethings letting their hair down. Friendly and accommodating, staff adds to the vibrant, welcoming mood, helped along by a soundtrack mixing classic hits from the likes of Pearl Jam, Blink 182 and The Cure with modern anthems. Some Powderfinger and INXS tracks are a nod to the local area’s Antipodean population.

The Drink
Fancy a Spiced Poo? This tangy rum, raspberry liqueur, Red Bull, cranberry and lime concoction is just one of many original and intriguing cocktails on offer from a menu of over 170 choices mostly priced at £5.90 each. Amongst regular classics, expert bartenders also serve up less common cocktails like the Diablo (tequila, fresh lime, blackcurrant liqueur and ginger ale), which is sweet and tangy behind the unmistakable tequila bite. Their Mango Collins (mango puree, mango liqueur, lemon juice, soda and either gin or vodka) is deliciously smooth and available in four other fruit variations on the traditional cocktail.

While Be at One Putney doesn’t serve any food, apart from crisps and nuts, the extensive cocktail menu (including almost every spirit as well as ice cream, Champagne and shooter options) ensures you’ll find something to whet your appetite. If cocktails aren’t your thing, there are bottled beers and a small selection of European, Australian and South American wines also available for £15 per bottle or £5 per glass.

The Last Word
With much more personality than your standard bar chains, Be at One Putney is a refreshing addition to a local area dominated by pubs and eateries. With cheap drinks and cheerful service, it looks set to make its mark.
