I visited Benares with my partner for a birthday lunch this week and we were both blown away by the quality of the food.

As we were shown to our table and started looking through the menu Chef Kochhar walked into the dining room in his chef whites and said hello to the diners. To know he was there over seeing the kitchen was a great start.

We opted for the lunch time menu and started with smoked lamb kebabs which were beautifully cooked. Moist and flavoursome they were a fantastic start to the meal. We then both had the spice crusted steamed plaice which again was amazing. It came up piping hot with a squash masala accompaniment and the flavours worked really well together.

Along with the food we chose the pairing wines which were both very well matched to the courses they came with. After the meal we were served coffee and petit fours which was a great end to the meal.

All in all the food was outstanding, the service was great and i will definitely be returning.

In terms of service and ambiance this is the best restaurant I have been EVER. Perfect for a romantic date.

Food is good and desert sublime. Its a Michelin award winning restaurant so expect no less. Well worth the visit for special occasions.

Some of the worst most arrogant service I've ever encountered in London - nay the world. Avoid this overpriced hole. London has some fantastic restaurants so this place cannot survive.

Great location, decoration and ambience. Food is tasty but not very authentic of indian cuisine, more of indian cuisine with a british twist which i do not prefer. Price is good for service and food. Well rounded restaurant, nice bar area too. Would return mainly due to atmosphere of the restaurant being ideal for a romantic dinner.

We went to Benares last week and it was ok but nothing special but we had a better time at Anokha in fenchurch st, the food and service was exceptional.

This was my first visit to Benares Restaurant and probably the last. The food was okay, so were the staff, but the most horrifying thing was the hospitality from the managers and reception, who were very rude and un-civilised.

The wine list doesn’t makes sense, it was all alien names which I had never heard of, and yes the food was good, but I sincerely think the manager needs to improve their manners and attitude. The waiters at Benares Restaurant were okay, the chef is popular but you need to keep an eye on the staff rather than spend more time on the food.

Benares Bar is a strikingly designed bar (and restaurant) that is fairly relaxed. Everyone I talk to rave's about the Indian cuisine on offer at Benares Bar so it's on the list of things to do!

Wow! Benares is so beautiful it's like being in a museum. I don't know how much they spent on the place, but it's amazing - carved wood, mosaics, flowers, water pools. The food at Benares is delicious but made even more so by the beautiful surroundings.
