Love the themed nights vintage music and random eccentric crowds this place attracts. Had some amazing nights out at bethnal green working mens club. But its only downfall is that you have to first get past the rudest bouncers in London. I don't know why the event organisers haven't replaced them? I've seen the bouncers turn away so many punters for no good reason. I'm a woman in my 30's & despite getting there early and turning up sober, guaranteed you will be spoken to like a child and ridiculed by the wankers at the door. Such a shame the bouncers taint the awesomeness of this place

such an interesting place ruined but the rudest bouncers in London. I can't understand why they are kept working there, as they are obviously doing a disservice both to the venue and customers. please note that none of us (a group of 9 visiting on Nov 13th, 2010) was either drunk or causing any trouble whatsoever. It's pity they have problems with their license, but the same goes with many venues and at the end of the day, politeness can actually go a long way.

Please everyone remember that BGWMC is actually a real Working Mens Club so the appalling everything is part of the charm.

However yes I do agree the manners of the staff do leave a lot to be desired.I though go once in a while for the ripped lino beehived dragon of a bar lady and decrepid cashier with a fag hanging out of his mouth.

I mean where else in London can you get a G&T with the classic fancy a slice of lemon and ice with that darling from a women old enough to be your grandmother but dressed up to the nines.

It s live social history

We had never been down to Workingman's Club before but had an absolute blast.

I wasn't sure what to expect tbh but the staff, dj's, band and acts were really top notch. Great, unpretentious fun to be sure.

We hadn't danced so much in years and really appreciated the friendly crowd who really make an effort. We shall be back very soon

Just this weekend a group of 9 students, including myself, were treated to the most horrifying display of arrogance and disrespect by the bouncers at this club.

After a good dose of intimidation at the door, one of my party was accused of "making trouble" at the coat and bag check (he held up the queue for less than a minute, waiting for one of us to fish out a coin for his bag).

The manager came up to him, said rudely that the club didn't need his business, and that he take himself and his refund out at once.

My friend asked what the reason was, because he didn't even know there was a problem! No reason was given.

I understand the whole "right to refuse entry" bit, but we were all completely sober and were not loud or aggressive at all.

Worst part is, our MA program actually had its fundraiser at the club just two months ago, and was precisely the reason why we thought of it when we were looking for a place to party.

A huge disappointment, this club ruined our night! Who would want to go to a club where the manager doesn't even want to listen to your complaint, and tells you he doesn't need your money???

Rude, arrogant, very aggressive. Go to bethnal green working mens club if you want to treated like a piece of trash, and be welcomed with a slew of insults and nasty attitude from staff.

Some friends and I visited BGWMC on Saturday night for the Cream Revue 50s night. It was my first ever visit, and I've come away with really mixed feelings about it.Lets get the bad bit out of the way first. The door staff are without doubt the rudest that I have ever encountered! Having read reviews commenting on the same, I was very careful to arrive early, and had made an effort on outfit front. Despite this, the guys on the door were less than welcoming and seemed hesitant to let us in. Friends that arrived later - but before 9 - told me that the doormen had asked them 'what they thought they were wearing' and 'why hadn't they made any effort?'. Other friends were getting out of their taxi when they were told from across the road not to bother getting out as they weren't coming in - no real reason given, but a v agressive tone. And the doormen refused to give their name when asked - a sure sign they knew they were being out of order. Complaints have been sent directly to the venue!!On the positive side - if you do manage to get past the door staff, and aren't too put out by the rude manner in which they will almost certainly have dealt with you, you are guaranteed an amazing night. The music and other entertainment was ace. Fairly cheap booze, and free fairy cakes. Toilets were a bit small (only two cubicles) but fair enough. No probs at all with staff inside the venue, and a nice atmosphere amongst your fellow jivers.Despite this I'd really hesitate before going back - purely because I wouldn't want to deal with the bouncers again. A shame, this place is really let down by the cretins on the door.
