Nice gay pub located in Camden with an amazing terrace for the smokers or to enjoy a chat if you're tired of the songs.
Club-ish and Cabaret nights hosted on several nights of the week with nice Djs and performers.
The lady at the door taking the money is my only complaint. There was this one time when I had 5 American tourists still deciding if they were going in, then they had to work out the change and cash and I was already ready and even had the correct money to hand it to her and she made me wait, which I believe was very unprofessional. It's not like I was jumping the queue or anything as the girls still were kinda deciding if they were going in or not.

I have been a regular at The Black Cap for many years and though I'm a straight female I have always been welcomed and found the staff to be friendly.

That was until there was a management change a couple of years ago. When Karl and Jimmy moved on and a new manager took over the atmosphere completely changed and I found myself deciding not to go there anymore, especially after some bad experiences with food and complaints not being addressed. (I must say here that the hard working cabaret acts and DJs carried on in the club and did an amazing job with, I would guess, not a whole load support from the management at that time. There were rumours of pay cuts, etc.)

When I heard that the management had changed again I thought I would give it a try once more, as some of my friends and I had such fond memories of Sunday afternoons, delicious roasts and friendly staff.

It was with a little bit of trepidation that I approached the Black Cap a couple of Sundays ago but I'm pleased to say that the atmosphere is back! The food has improved, with a new mostly freshly made menu. The staff are friendly (although it must be noted that the two constant members of staff through the changes, Mark and Jan, have always been consistently friendly) and I welcome the return of Beena! Plus it was great to see some of the other regulars back too!

So welcome back to The Black Cap and whereas it's not the same as back with Karl and Jimmy, this is due more to us missing staff and friends who have moved on rather than any fault with the venue. Of course the bar prices have jumped considerably and it's for this reason that I have given it a four out of five.

See you there on some Sunday! Bring on the roasts!

Turned away from this venue for being "straight" by the "lady" on the door who gives you a stamp. When asked how they could tell whether we were straight or not, our group were then told that we "clearly were", and "our sort is not welcome". Shame on the staff for conforming to a stereotype. Have been to this bar many a time (which can be hit and miss, I must add!); I was shocked on this occasion to be discriminated against in this way. Frankly, at this rate, if they are turning people away on a quiet Thursday evening due to speculation of their sexuality, I really wonder what will happen to this place. Absolutely shocking.

I have been going to this venue for many years and I'm straight. I have never had any problems gaining entry and have always been welcomed by both the lady on the door and bar staff. I find the people that are usually refused entry are either too drunk or rowdy and are refused entry for these reasons not their orientation.

Have just visited the Black Cap for the second time. Both times where with my wife and friends we where made to feel very welcome by the staff and clientele.
The food and drink offer excellent value for money.
A great place to go if you're fed up with pubs showing football all day.
I look forward to my next visit.

This is yet another one of Mitchells and Butlers gay bars, who appear to think that gay people are happy with grotty hovels that would make your local ‘boozer’ look and feel like a palace. The bar was dead, with only a handful of customers in the bar, a few more outside smoking. The staff were unbelievably rude, possibly why this place only had a few customers. Two customers were refused service even though any other pub in London would have had no objection. When I spoke up about this, I was given a hail of abuse. This place seriously needs to sort itself out. The staff, who appeared to be barely legal drinking age need to get off their high horses and need to look after their customers a bit better. I really thought places like this disappeared out of the provinces in the 90’s, it appears M&B thought it would be good to relocate the them to Camden. There are much better and more friendly bars in the area.

Have to agree that the music on a saturday was particularly heavy, but the 'small' dance floor was busy, just not my music. The drag artist that was on, titi le camp, was hilarious and made my night. The clientelle were friendly and I found the bar staff both quick serving and polite. Quite a unique place and would highly recommend. Four stars, only let down by the music.

Yes I agree, I think the Black Cap is awesome, the drinks are cheap by London standards and I've been twice now and had an awesome time both times. Some of the live acts leave a lot to be desired but a couple of them are really funny!

The only thing I would say is that it is quite a small venue though and would not be my first choice for a big night out. If you find yourself pissed and in Camden at 1am and want to carry on the party I would recommend it.

The Black Cap is an ace venue. There is always plenty going on here, and the cabaret nights are particularly good. Plenty of good beer, plenty of hot guys and plenty of fun to be had at the Black Cap.

This place has seen better days. The whole set up appears now to be very amateur.Seems to be the same faces on the stage - and none of them particularly good., with the exeption of Sandra.Worst have got to be someone called Trindy. Music too now leaves a lot to be desired, and one of the dj's I found particularly rude on a Saturday night when requesting a song.
Mon VERY quiet
Tue Karaoke - not bad but not fun.
Wed - Awful.
Thur - Awful
Fri Quiet
Sat - Music too heavy
Sun - quiet.
