This shiny little cocktail bar in East Dulwich is definitely one to remember. Simple food, fancy cocktails and afternoon tea, it's like visiting the dark side of the Cotswolds.

The Venue
The Black Cherry is situated in the busy heart of East Dulwich. The dark, unassuming exterior hides a decadent cocktail bar with dark wooden floors, well-designed furnishings and a large shiny black bar. The whole look is finished off with grand vases of colourful fresh flowers and some ambient designer lighting.

The Atmosphere
This East Dulwich local has a very loyal local crowd. Go at the weekend and the place just crackles with fun. The clientele is a mix of the booming voices of City lads after one or two Zombies and the more chilled out, creative crowd supping a bottle of Rioja after midnight. The weekdays see Dulwich mums enjoying afternoon tea and a glass of fizz in lavish and grown-up surroundings.

The Food
For such as glamorous place the menu offers quite a chaste fare. The grilled chicken breast is juicy and flavoursome and served simply with baby roast potatoes and buttery spinach. Other homely dishes include home-made pie of the day and plump herby bangers served with a creamy chive mash and boozy gravy. The real treat at Black Cherry is the afternoon tea selection. Fancy teas, home-made cakes including a syrupy tart tatin and the ultimate decadence; warm, crumbly scones filled with rich strawberry jam and cool, dense clotted cream – heartbreakingly good.

The Drink
The cocktail list has either been prepared by a professional mixologist or someone with a vivid imagination. There are some bizarre concoctions on offer such as the Golden Dragon involving tequila and banana liqueur and the Pinot Punch which is vodka, mint and peach topped off with Pinot Grigio. The house Zombies have a health warning and a limit of two a night. The wine list is mainly dominated by Spanish and Chilean wines and you'd be hard pushed to spend more than £20.00 on a bottle, with most sitting around the £14.00 - £16.00 mark.

The Last Word
Black Cherry is unique in the fact that despite its shiny looks, it is actually quite unpretentious and a comfortable place to spend an evening. The good food, friendly staff and interesting drinks make it even nicer. Lucky old Lordship Lane to have such treat.
