12 of us from Luxembourg went to this pub on a Friday at the advertised opening time. The young lady who finally came to the door, said that they were not ready and turned us away! She was nice enough to recommend another bar :-(.

We had a lovely time at the Black Friar. I had the chicken, mushroom and stuffing pie and it came hot and flakey. My friend had the Ploughman's lunch and she practically swooned. Staff were very helpful, fun to deal with. No issues with smoke from the outside smoking area even though the windows and doors were open (temp was around 80F). Pies change daily, going back tonight in hopes the steak and stilton pie is available!

Although the Black Friar is non-smoking inside, smokers smoke immediately outside of the doors and windows, and if doors and windows are kept open (as they were when we were there earlier this week), the smoke comes straight into the pub. Also, forget about enjoying your drink outside the Black Friar- unless you don't mind breathing other people's smoke as you try to enjoy your beer.

I love that Black Friar is non-smoking, it's so unusual for pubs but it's lovely to spend a night out and not come home smelling like you've humped an ashtray! Black Friar is defnitely worth a visit if you're in the area.
