The Bricklayers Arms is a traditional, comfortable and endearing freehouse steeped in history and awash with great beers and good conversation.

The Venue
Tucked down a secluded side street in Putney, the Bricklayers Arms is exactly what you want from your local - comfortable, individual and relaxing. The quirkily-shaped, tiny building is the oldest pub in Putney and dates back to the early 1800s. It’s a family-run pub that exudes a great sense of local spirit and character – black and white photos of the local area illustrate Putney’s history and the wooden floors, maroon curtains, cream panelling and church pew style seats create the feeling of a revered local haunt. A real fireplace makes it a cosy spot for wintry nights whilst a paved, secluded patio out the back is great for sunny days and warm evenings (and a perfect smoking spot).

In an area of London awash with chains and lacklustre drinking spots, the Bricklayers Arms is an independent and endearing gem – there are few places left where the person pouring your beer might just be the owner, or where you could start up an impromptu game of bar skittles.

The Atmosphere
The Bricklayers Arms has all the friendlessness and casual cheer you’d expect from a traditional local pub, and no mustiness or gloomy old patrons propping up the bar. Whilst regular punters do take their place on the barstools, it’s the kind of place where there’s casual banter and jokes between the bartender and other customers (and the pub is so small you always feel free to join in). The crowd is fairly quiet and sparse during the week but gets jovial and rowdy on Fulham home game days and when big sporting matches are shown on the large screen at the back.

The Food
The only food available is a Sunday Roast when a choice of home cooked lamb, beef, pork or chicken with all the trimmings is available for £7.95. During screenings of sports matches you can also pick up tasty bacon butties.

The Drink
The lack of food during the week means you can put plenty of effort into selecting your tipple of choice, and there are plenty of quality beverages on offer. The Bricklayers Arms is the only pub in London to stock the full range of Timothy Taylor beers and you can choose from Landlord, Best Bitter, Golden Best, Ram Tam or Dark Mild brews. There is also a great selection of other tap and bottled beers, wines and spirits, all at reasonable prices.

The Last Word
Small and traditional, Bricklayers Arms is packed with character and is much more interesting than the louder, flashier pubs and bars nearby.
