The ViewLondon Review
Neatly fitted under a Victorian railway arch and surrounded by a vivacious market, Brixton Bar and Grill is a snugly placed watering hole with a hint of Spanish old world. The VenueA two minute walk from Brixton tube and onto Atlantic road and you will feel as though you’ve just walked into a dark but comfortable little Spanish cave at the Brixton Bar and Grill.
The AtmosphereThe atmosphere changes as you make your way through the three-roomed space of the Brixton Bar and Grill. from a cozy banquette diner feel in the dimly-lit front bar with it’s upright leather seats and large wooden tables; a sultry and sexy aura in the sumptuous middle room with the cushions and candlelight; and retro cool in the cocktail lounge with it’s quirky, mismatched furniture.
The DrinkDrinks at Brixton Bar and Grill include premium beers such as Bitburger and the malty Anchor Steam Beer, but the real deal here is the gastronomic cocktail menu. This includes the White Cosmopolitan with white cranberry juice and the Pear Mohito made with Xante, mint and lime. Cocktails start at £5.75, which is very reasonably priced for the area.
The FoodWith a name that includes grill in its title you could be mistaken into salivating over a robust selection of meats and steaks. Well, don’t get excited because the food here is more world Tapas than American grill. Refined dishes like grilled butterfly prawns with couscous and parsnip, carrot and sweet potato fritters take on a more secondary role.
The MusicIf it’s a chilled evening you’re after then week nights are perfect at Brixton Bar and Grill. They hold lots of events, like the Backgammon Club, where you can also get involved in a casual game of chess, snakes and ladders or draughts. Weekends are more upbeat with regular sets from DJs and musicians playing soul and funk tunes until 2am.
The Last WordWarm, sophisticated and ultra cozy, the Brixton Bar and Grill is perfect for a friendly date or booze fuelled stop gap before a heavy night.
