Opened only a few years ago, Bullet Bar is a sexy joint near Kentish Town that brings a fresh vibe and balance to North West London.

The Venue
Bullet Bar is positioned on Kentish Town Road and is close to London overground, within easy reach of the eclectic and vibrant surroundings of Camden Town. The sleek decor is complimented by a warm palette of intense reds, which is coupled with bintage leather furnishings. The simple layout includes a garden at the rear that is open to drinkers during the summer months.

The Atmosphere
The theme is certainly fresh and funky. Lots of cool and chic twenty and thirtysomethings who live in the neighbouring local areas have already made this bar a popular haunt due to the lively atmosphere, interesting melange of people and, most importantly, cheaper than average booze. However one major improvement that the management should consider is installing some air conditioning units as in the height of summer the venue is so hot you don’t need to go down the gym to use the sauna as you can easily sweat off a few pounds inside Bullet Bar.

The Music
There’s an array of live acts and acoustic sets that are lucky enough to grace the Bullet Bar’s stage. On weekdays there’s a fantastic array of diverse acoustic and bands. Meanwhile, on Saturday the themes, as with the people, change throughout the night with a mixture of the pop, rock and 80’s and 90’s cheese to more recent hits from RnB and hip hop toward the latter half of the night. However, there’s always bound to be an appearance made by Messers, Astley and Hawkes.

The Drink
There’s a good variety of drinks including shots, cocktails, spirits and beers. Cocktails feature such treats as Amaretto Sour, Black Russian, Caipirinhia, Cosmopolitans. Especially good is the Godfather, which would make Marlon Brando quiver. This concoction is a melange of whisky and amaretto over ice cubes. The almond undertones complement the potent tastes that emanate from the whisky while the ice dilutes the strength to give a full bodied drink.

The range of beers on offer is pretty impressive featuring Budweiser, Grolsch, Guinness and K Blonc. Bottled beers include Becks, Budva, Corona and Peroni. With prices under £4 per bottle this should be snapped up at every opportunity. There’s an interesting range of different flavoured vodkas from Absolut and other spirits such as Baileys, Cointreau, Grand Marnier, Jose Cuervo Clasico and Tia Maria. The only disappointment is on the wine front, where Pinot Grigio and Merlot are the only offerings on an empty list.

The Last Word
It’s certainly a 4 star for ambiance and environment at Bullet Bar, but this is sorely let down by a lack of air conditioning that will have you sweating buckets in an hour or two. The wine list is as barren as the Sahara Desert and certainly requires a little more thinking and creative input.
