The ViewLondon Review
With fantastic river views, an all-year-round appeal and charm that’s so often lacking in bars in London, the Bulls Head is worth a visit.
The Venue
With views overlooking the River Thames, the popularity of the Bulls Head is undeniable. Located in Strand on the Green, the pub is comprised of small rooms providing cosy corners that divide up the pub, adding to its unique character. Open fireplaces, beamed low ceilings, walls lined with empty wine bottles and dim lighting all make for a comforting aesthetic. There’s even a heated smoking area with lighting near the entrance of the pub.
The Atmosphere
This intimate pub provides a warm and welcoming atmosphere, and is home to a host of friendly locals and business types. With picturesque views of the river combined with fantastic service and friendly staff who are always on hand for both food and drink recommendations, the Bulls Head is a great place for a break from the hectic streets of London.
The Food
A lengthy menu at the Bulls Head offers traditional pub food ranging from hand battered fish and chips to a 6oz steak burger, they also provide a selection of specials. Highly recommended is the Bombardier ale pie with creamy mashed potatoes and vegetables. Priced at just £7.60, the beef is tender and melts in the mouth, whilst the ale gravy offers just a subtle hint of the ale, perfectly complementing the beef. On a Sunday a range of traditional Sunday Roasts are popular.
The Drink
The Bulls Head carries a good selection of draught beer including Amstel, Fosters, Hoegaarden, Kronenbourg, Stella and Guinness as well as Strongbow Cider. They are also have a choice of regularly changing real ales. Their ales are cask marque certified, so you know you’re being offered quality. There’s an impressive range of fine wine and a selection of monthly specials by the glass or the bottle. There are also many options of teas and specialty coffees.
The Last Word
The Bulls Head can be enjoyed whatever the season thanks to its open fireplaces and riverside locale. Worth a visit if you’re in the area.
