We went to Cargo last Thursday as they were supposed to doing free entry before nine, but when we got there, they were demanding the full £8.00 and didn't give a damn about the free entry.

Go see Gilles Peterson at Cargo! I think he still does the last Thursday of every month at Cargo! Wherever he is you should find him.

This place is underrated! I have been a few times and so far been impressed, the music's great, and the venue itself is impressive. I was expecting the crowd to be arrogant and stuck up, but I was totally wrong...no-one cares what you wear and it has such a variety of different people. The drinks are reasonable what more could you want?! Altogether a great place to go!

We arrived at Cargo early so had a bottle of the Spanish beer (I don't understand the allusion to Sabrina or why to avoid the bargain bottle) out in the patio, then at eleven suddenly everybody went in to the dance floor, and I mean suddenly: 11:00 the space was empty, 11:10 and all you could see was a sea of heads all turned towards the stage.

The music was good but a bit bizarre, not the usual rap or hip-hop I know, but then, I am not a professional. People did dance, they were mostly on their middle 20s, dress code mainly T-Shirts and slightly oversized jeans for boys, and absolutely no flimsy or sequined or flowery garments for girls.

Entrance is £6 before nine, £10 after that. But thank God you don't feel scrutinized all over by the bouncer...as a plain brunette favouring cotton and combats over silk and Ra-Ras, I really appreciate it.

I'm a relative newby to Cargo and am a definate recruit for spreading the word. I was recently at a Raison D'etre night held there and was blown away not only by the music but by the venue. It has everything you want in a venue - cosy nooks, great dance space, reasonable bar and great food and most importantly a fantastic atmosphere. I loved it and look forward to many more nights!

My love affair with Cargo started back in July of this year and has now blossomed into a full on meaningful relationship, which is strange when you consider I had to pretend to be in a gay relationship with my mate Dave (they operate on even girl to boy ratio, but gay couples are ok, apparently).

The door staff are actually helpful rather than dismissive and are capable of using words of more than one syllable, which I find is an all too rare trait these days.

On entering you are hit by loud music, but rather than being too bassy or distorted it is just right. This is because of its rather impressive speaker display. The area itself is spacious but also quite intimate, the crowd is varied and unpretentious, and to be fair that is an award winning quality in itself.

With very quick and friendly bar staff I found myself having a great time and have been back on many occasions, it was just lucky I made these notes the first time as I can't remember the others too well. I wondered when these notes would come in useful! All in all a fantastic night out!
