I could not reccomend CS to any one sadly, although the food is good - once you get it... My cousin booked CS for 8 and told them we had a couple of taste cards. after taking seats and being pounced on immediately to give our drinks orders, we replied that we weren't ready ... the waiter disappeared for some time - at least 30 minutes. when he did take our order there was no apology for the delay. he then came and told us they didnt' have the wine we ordered - no customer service skills used here either. when ready to order our starters and mains, we had to go and look for the waiter as did another group of people - so that was two out of the three parties in the restaurant looking for waiting staff.
once ordered we set about waiting. our booking was for 2pm our youngest daughter was at a birthday party about 15 minutes away that finished at 4pm. we thought we would have time to eat and then my husband would pick her up towards the end of the meal. At 3:45pm he went to pick her up and we hadn't even seen the starters! when they came they were wrong but the waiter didn't stay around long enough for us to complain. When he did come back it was to tell my cousin that they didn't have any ackee and saltfish - our national dish... how could it not be on the menu - and how could he not have known? when my husband came back close to 4:30, the main courses had not long been served; I asked the waiter if he could bring my husband's food; it came a good 10 minutes after he had been seated in a not busy restaurant. the children talked briefly about pudding but there was absolutely no way we would even consider it, what with everything taking so long.
When we called for the bill the restaurant staff were equally slow and in the end we had to go to the till. they wanted to quibble about our taste cards and tried to over charge us. when my aunt suggested I add it up on my phone calculator we were told that we were wasting the managers time! unbelievable!
The only reason I'm even giving this a 1star is because there is no option to give it none.I have been to restaurants that I have had bad service but this was absolutely disgusting..firstly i called to make a reservation @7:30 but was told that we could not be accommodated till 8:30 that was fine i accepted the booking. when we arrived we were told to wait in the bar as out table was not ready, we waited till about 25 mins. This dinner was for my (pregnant) cousins birthday Once we were seated someone came to take our order he was not the most helpful waiter but our order was taken. we waited about 40mins then we called the waiter who told us that they had misplaced our order and our starters were gonna be @least another 15min, after waiting another 15 mins we called the manager, who was surprisingly rude and uncaring, he proceeded to tell us that there was a large booking that had booked 2 weeks ago and that we should not have been booked in the first place!! you can imagine the disgust that we felt @ this comment as it was him who had taken my booking in the first place. He then went on to make excuses and was not apologetic in the slightest when we told him that his waiter had already told us that they had lost our order he looked embarrassed just told us that it was coming an walked away. This guy is the worst manager ever. We then waited till about 10:45 when the waiter came back and said that he was gonna just bring everything together we told him we wanted our starters, you would think that the service could not get any worse! well it did, he bought our food in a mish mash of starters and mains, he bought oxtail no rice! some starters then side dishes by the time i received my starter my main had been sitting for 10min with no rice@ last min the manager tried to ask us if he could give us a bottle of wine we declined, told him of our disgust.I will neverr eat there again we only paid for our drinks much to his protest but the whole experience was awful.
Me and my wife went to the CS on saturday 24th of April 2010.
We arrived 5 mins late we waited about 15 mins for a table that was ok we were seated and almost forgotton about every waiter walked pass us for about 25 mins the Manager notice this then someone came over to serve us we orded our starter and waited about 30 mins for it i could see the starters sitting there i wanted to go and get it myself i orded 2x pepper steak they came back saying they have run out of steak now this wasn't even late this was my second time may be the last the management need to deal with the service because they are going to lose customers big time no smiling face's the atmosphere wasn't good there was a lot of complaints that night i love my jamaican food CS you need to get things together i want to support you but you need to get organized with customer service
properly trained staff who knows what there doing.
Give Thanks.
What an evening. It was my other half's b/day. We decieded to go to the docklands for a meal before taking bed game.
we ended up at this place called the royale victoria in the docklands, Restaurant called the Caribbean scene.
we ask if we could get a table for 7 and we were told to wait for 15 mins by the bar for the table to be ready, instead it only took 8mins for the gentlemen in a very smart suit with a very noticable trade mark on his face and a lovely smile ask us to follow him.
We were given a table next to the kitchen. We could see every thing happening in the kitchen. Our drinks to 5mins & starters 5mins, the main took a good 15mins. Now the food was lovely.
I mostly enjoy the night because the customer service from the manager was top class, he kept coming asking if we were ok.He also ask what was the occasion, we said b/day.
A very well shaped carrot cake with a candle was sent to the table with a caribbean birthday song in the air which made the whole evening a night to remember consindering my age.
Price was right for the occasion, Food was 3 stars needs a bit to be done on the quality.THANKS
Restaurant is in a lovely location. We arrived 40 mins late for our 7pm reservation mainly due to us trying to find the so-called NCP car park they described on their website.
We had to wait at least 30 mins for a table. The first table they offered was REALLY close to an occupied 4-table so we rejected. They later offered a table at the back. When we got closer I realised they had a whole stack of empty tables at the back!
What is all that about??Starters were really tiny portions and not worth it even for the quality.Mains took a while to arrive. They were very well presented but quality not worth the price at all.
My hubby had curry goat: meat was very mushy and overcooked. Curry itself was very salty. The rice and peas it came with was VERY dry and hard! I had the rack of lamb and for £19.95 I expected better.
Lamb was well cooked but portion was tiny and the plantain and red pepper it was supposed to come with was replaced with rice (again very dry and hard) without any explanation.During the meal, it was difficult to flag down any waiter for a drink and we were so thirsty.
My hubby actually had to get up to ask. Waiter lacked attention to detail, so much so that we had to ASK them to take our plates away after staring at the mess for so long.
Overall, not worth the high prices they charge and I would have really kicked myself if we had paid the full bill (2 for 1 on Taste London card). I will not be in a hurry to return anytime soon.
First impression: The smell. Fortunately I had a cold but my friend noticed as soon as we entered. Apparently the air conditioning wasn’t working very well so visitors had to endure the smell of rancid water (or so my friend described it) over the smells of the kitchen.
Second impression: We were served by a pleasant young lady. Then approx 2 mins a young waiter appeared, to inform us that the steak ordered wasn’t available! The waiter appeared to be genuinely apologetic and when he also added that that the plantain was also unavailable!
'Amazing' my friend noted, that as we were the only other couple and the night was still young, there couldn’t have been any steaks bought that day. Again the waiter agreed and was apologetic, I then requested to see the manager.
Third impression: Required urgently ‘customer service’ training of management staff. With a slight gruff the manager appeared. We noted that we were unhappy and why. No apology was offered, instead he noted that he knew that plantain could be bought cheaply but he wasn’t responsible for ordering therefore it wasn’t his fault
Also that they had green plantain in stock and were waiting for it to ripen! Laughable indeed! His tone didn’t improve much from that point.
Fourth impression: When the food arrived it was pleasant enough and flavourful. However as there weren’t any vegetable side orders available with the Christmas menu, therefore the meals weren’t wholly balanced as one would expect.
As a takeaway order, great. As a meal in a restaurant, more effort, restaurant experience, customer service required.
Lasting impression: Would we visit again? Unfortunately not! The location is fantastic with great views across the river. The ambience was missing, the lack of common ingredients unforgivable and service was poor. This is the type of misnomer is experienced from Caribbean takeaways on a regular basis – never good enough even th
I went to caribbean scene near the excel a couple of months ago and the food was nice, atmosphere ok and service pelasant. But then i found out that another caribbean scene had been opened re in stratford east which i went to last night. I would recommend that everyone go to the caribbean scene is stratford. I recieved larger portions as there was none of the pretentious nouvelle cuisine sillyness that they insist on at the restaurant near the excel. I took my grandmother and we both had starters, mains and several drinks and the bill came to £45 whereas when i went to the other restaurant we paid over £60 for the same meal. The atmosphere in stratford is nicer too because there are families and young people. The service was excellent and we were never left waiting for the main or for drinks. All in all a lovely evening out.
My friend had booked CS for her birthday. She booked the Friday 15th Feb. When we arrived we were told that we had to have a set Valentines menu, she was not told this when we made the booking. The 4 of us were pushed into the tight table surrounded by couples. the menu was not that diverse. Chicken wing starters, only 4 very small pieces were o.k. Fish gougeons were more coating then fish. Service was appalling; the menu came with a champagne cocktail (champagne with a cherry in it!!) 1 of us doesn’t drink and it took 15 minutes to get a replacement for the drink…having been told that nothing could be done. The mains were o.k. looked great but unable to eat garnished..deep fiend bread-fruit was cooked till it was MDF. The manager came over and asked us is everything o.k. to which we replied no. We listed our grievances to which he began to tell us about how many awards the restaurant had won!!! He offered us a free desert….we declined. We just wanted to go. He then got the waitresses to come over with a candle lit cheese cake and sing happy birthday to my friend…big pause halfway through..they didn’t know her name. There lack lustre performance and interest was plainly seen on their faces. The bill came, 2 courses for £30 plus service charge 12.5% I’ve tasted far better food at Cottons, Mango Rooms and most Caribbean takeaways. It was definitely nothing special. We paid the 30£ for the food but said we were not going to pay the service charge and the service had been inadequate through. The manager then proceeded to tell us that we had to pay it as it is not a gratuity but part of the meal.????? I stood my ground; he eventually relented, sending over the rudest of staff member to take our money. She did not speak to us at all…
