Love it! We stumbled upon this amazing place whilst trudging around the East End looking for somewhere good to have some lunch and a drink. The lady at the bar was so welcoming and looked after us so well during our time there -in fact she went out of her way! The rose was lovely and the hand made pizzas were gorgeous! We hope to go back again and would love to be there during the evening when they have music on! Th bathroom is fantastic - very stylish and the decor upstairs is fabulous! Really, really fantastic! What a lovely find! Carnivale made our day!

What a shame the "big boys" don't bother to visit Carnivale and see how it should be done. Great Music tickgreat Food tickreasonable drink prices tickfriendly Attentive Staff ticka rarity to the over trendy Brick Lane or pretentious City , Carnivale has the charm and love you want when you go out. Sitting down for a meal with my wife and watching a delightful soul band at the same time, I couldn't think of a better night. Despite my reservations of going to a "bar/restaurant" Carnivale nailed it and I will certainly be back. Long live the independent if they all are like this.

What a fantastic night I had last night, in this very cosy hidden little bar/restaurant. I feel in love with the retro decorated walls. My friend was performing at the open Mic night at this fab little place. It was buzzing. We sat upstairs and had an amazing view of the stage, and although it was very busy all the staff were so polite and friendly towards my group of friends. The music (including my friend) was amazing, but added to the great atmosphere and music you can't forget the food wow! The menu was slightly short of a few items (busy lunch, I guess) but still I was able to order the most fantastic fillet Steak I have eaten in years. Carnivale should be busy for the steak alone. Forget all the other great things.

i don't write reviews but when I read a negative one like the one left below I can not resist the urge to do so.
Carnivale has now become a local to me. The two owners are nothing but wonderful despite the comments made by one reviewer. I go regularly to this restaurant and neither of them have ever been rude or weird. You can't fault the work and dedication they both put in. From building it themselves to working 7 days a week, with the occasional staff help, these two know how to create a welcoming and homely atmosphere for their customers while still presenting a stunning venue with masses of events coming and going.
A live music venue, restaurant and bar that's free to get in and offers an amazing steak for only 11.95.
Its hard to write a negative comment about this little place, unless you are a negative person with other motives behind leaving such ridiculous comments.
At least they got one thing right, the atmosphere is brilliant the food is good, and the service. Well ignore what ever you have read before and trust me, you won't get better in a venue near brick lane.

Lovely atmosphere and the food was good. This was despite the behavior of the waitress we encountered int he upstairs section who told us we could not sit on any of the two big empty tables, and dismissed us downstairs. Not a very nice welcome I have to say so I decided to ask the man serving behind the bar (beard) whose whole approach was more in line with how you treat people who come to your new restaurant. On telling him we wanted to eat he welcomed us and said he would see what he could do to sort out a table upstairs for us. Needless to say, he did so and we proceeded to enjoy the rest for the evening.

That is, until the waitress came back up and presented us with the bill that we had not asked for. We told her we were thinking about having a desset, to which she responded "oh right I'll bring the menue'. Erm. I am not sure if she was genuinely not aware of customer service or if she was just being rude. The other tables remained empty for the majority of the time we were there. If you know anything about customer service, you know that its all about making an effort. This waitress should ask herself what it was that her colleague did differently that meant we spent £46 and would have spent more had she not made it all a bit weird. Worth going just see if you get the same weird treatment! Ps we went on Sat night 6th Feb.

In defence of the above comments I feel, as the waitress referenced, I should correct a few of the points made in this review. These points mentioned are negative towards the business and unfair without the complete truth being written.

The two empty tables, were reserved for a 2 large parties of people would hadn't arrived at the time the reviewers visited for dinner. Both tables had reserved signs on which did not stop the reviewers from sitting on the table. They were asked to move as the table were clearly reserved, they were not dismissed downstairs. It was suggested had looked to see if there was any free space at the tables downstairs.
The gentleman who gave them the table had to speak to that party to explain they could no longer have the full table. Had the party not been so accommodating these ladies would not of been able to dine at all.
The second party arrived late, which is why they were not present while they dined.

As the waitress being accused of being "rude" i would like to know if it would of been rude to give a reserved prebooked table away, to a party that had not booked?

Secondly they were asked when their steaks were cleared if they wanted anything else and they did not respond, which is why the bill was presented. When they expressed they wanted desserts, they weren't told "I'll get the menus" as we do not have dessert menus. The available dessert dishes were offered and the order taken and made straight away.

I feel it is unfair to have these comments made with disclosing the complete story. I only hope people with visit Carnivale to realise how unjust these comments are.

If you want a chilled and homely experience then this the place to visit. The owners are very relaxed and welcoming. Even though the menu small but changes daily to add to the experience.

having live music events is just another added gem off the place.
