I've been to Cave Austin several times before and always. enjoyed it and had a great night. However, I have taken a group of friends on two occasions recently and have been disappointed. The first time, the club was closed, when we were told before getting there, that it was going to be open. And last night, we were turned away at 12pm as it apparently closes doors at 11.30pm, even though it stays open until 2pm! I am getting a bit fedup of being turned away, so won't be dragging my mates out there again, only to be turned away from the door from an average club. The bouncers seem to take great pleasure in turning a group of 4 girls away as if we might be trouble...our faces obviously don't fit.
I recently moved into the area and was very curious of what the local night life is like. Upon severe searching I found the choice in Blackheath in very limited. Either Cave Austin or O'neils. Now a pub is nice but a bar should be better. Anyway, on walking in the decor is trying to be west end in nature and you can see that from the pictures, and the Manager is a nice chap but a little clueless from first impressions. I was eager to hear what the club is like, and was told that Thursday, Friday and Saturday are House music nights. Great except I hate house. So the manager went on to explain that Saturday is a little more commercial! Anyway he could tell I was not impressed and too his credit he was trying everything he could in order to change and restore the Cave to its former glory! So he told me what sounded like the best news to come to that area! They were broadening there nights to include Rnb and had brought on new djs. In particular, he has dj Bliss playing on Thursday 18 December 2008 for the first time, and if succesfull it will become the regular. This is great news, I have heard of dj Bliss before from up in North London, where he single handedly turned the fortunes of a new restuarant/bar by the tunes he played! So everyone needs to give Cave Austin at least one more chance! Come down on thursday 18th december 2008 and show you want the place to change back to its former glory. Trust me it will be the best night ever! Hope to see you all there!
I went to Cave Austin last Saturday and was really disappointed...Place has new bouncers again and on my surprise we were asked to move elsewhere when 3 older "drunk ladies" behaved very agressive towards my friend who visited this place for the first time.Well it was one of our favourite places to go but if we wont be treated as decent people we are not comming back!
I recently moved to this area with my girlfriend, and i was glad to see that South East London has at least one place where you can go without all the hoodies and usual trouble makers.
We went to Cave Austin last Saturday and found it on the whole quite good. Nice staff, nice garden and an ok club. However those who are planning on visiting, beware of the following:
1. Bar gets really overcrowded
2. Garden heaters didn't work while we were there so it can get really cold!
The review left earlier about the door staff - you are talking a load of rubbish. The doorman and lady are very friendly and very professional. The place is great and the garden is outstanding. I shall be going back shortly.
I went to Cave Austin for the first time last Saturday - a friend had been and said the bar was nice, but that she didn't think much of the club downstairs. She came with us, and we had a really great night. It was friendly enough, busy but not too crowded and the club was good. There are definitely more guys than ladies though - so good for the girls but not so great for the guys perhaps!
It is small (but not tiny) so don't go expecting an up-town sized club. This kind of place is great for 30 somethings as it is smaller, more friendly and you can actually strike up conversations in there. The music was current dance and a good mix. The bouncers seemed to be doing a great job last Saturday - they asked a potential problem to leave before any problem arose and were friendly to us as we went in and left.
We'll be going back to Cave Austin very soon.
First time I went to Cave Austin was great. Had a really nice time, good atmosphere, good calibre of people, music good.
Last night 4 of us (women in our '30s), decided to head back as few of us had been before and had good time. The place itself is really nice. Good location/decor etc., however this time we were extremely disappointed. Bouncers have changed and were aggresive, loud and abusive. We arrived at 11pm and by 12am after buying second bottle of very expensive wine were told to hurry up, drink up and get out. Their attitude was very intimidating and threatening. My full glass of wine was taken out of my hand and thrown down the sink in front of my very eyes. Other customers were treated exactly the same way. Two young guys behind us just shook their heads and walked out, before any trouble kicked off.
So, basically if you want your evening to be spoiled big time by loud, trashy, bullying, abusive bouncers who walk around like they are Russian Mafia, then Cave Austin is the place to go. You have been warned.
