The ViewLondon Review
Nick Jones, probably the most successful of the elite hospitality moguls in the UK, works his magic on this stalwart of the Italian dining scene. The VenueSituated in a hard to beat location looking onto the iconic surrounds of Old Burlington Street’s Royal Academy, which is beautifully lit by night, Ilse Crawford has designed the space to a mesmerising effect. Stunning Chesterfield banquettes, Murano chandeliers, faux fin-de-siecle mirrors and monochrome slatted marble flooring provide the backdrop to a glamourous and sometimes A-list clientele.
The AtmosphereBy night the space is lowlit and atmospheric. The central, cubic Chichetti Bar provides a whir of activity – not solely for the cocktail sippers lining it, but also for the chefs in their whites producing the restaurant’s classic, fine dining Venetian fayre.
The FoodChichetti is similar to Italian tapas, and this is the only restaurant in London from where it is available. It makes a great starter, though those selfish types who don’t wish to share may prefer the standalones, which include lots of tempting fish dishes and meat offerings cooked in a classic style.
The DrinkThe philosophy of Cecconi is that good food should be accompanied by good wine – and this is reflected in the drinks menu. The Italian wine list concentrates on the classics, with a range of prices to suit most budgets. There’s also a large cocktail menu and a range of beers and spirits if you fancy something a bit different.
The Last WordCecconi’s is a true see-and-be-seen venue, so make sure to doll up and head to one of Nick Jones other establishments, such as Soho House or The Electric Members bars, to continue the evening into the night.
