I can't understand these good reviews... The atmosphere is as dead as a do-do, the wine is awful and never tasted such a bad Rioja, Shiraz or Sancerre. The land lady is rude and needs to learn to smile! The atmosphere you can cut with a knife if she's in a bad mood... Have tried it out on several occasions... Won't be going back! The st johns or oak and pastor on the junction road are better choices.

I have lived in Highgate for two years now and after visiting a few pubs in the area I came across The Charlotte Despard and after the first visit I decided to visit more often. The staff are very welcoming and always have time to chat about their pub, drinks on offer, food which is all cooked fresh to order with some really nice dishes. Huge lists of wine to accompany any event. There is always something happening at the Charlotte Despard and have got to say the Tuesday night pub quiz's are my most memorable moments of the pub. All very creative, imaginative and a lot of fun. If I need cheering up its definitely down the Charlotte Despard for me.

A fantastically welcoming place, where nothing is too much trouble...

Good selection of drinks and a chilled out relaxed atmosphere

Great value food. And the best pub quiz you'll find anywhere...

Great and varied live music events/DJ's

All in all a top class local pub
