Christophers could have been a big disappointment, located as it is smack bang in the middle of touristy theatre land. We were therefore absolutely delighted with the attentive service, delightful ambience and fabulous food that we experienced there.
The three course pre-theatre dinner menu is excellent value at under 20 pounds, and the quality of the food is excellent.
We were particularly impressed by how professional the staff were, they really are top notch.
This is a great option for a special occasion or romantic treat. Really beautiful! Will definitely be back.

Christopher's is our favourite West End resturant. We use it as pre- or post-theatre dining every time we come up to town. The set-price menu is excellent value and there is no compromise on quality. My husband often chooses the a la carte - the last time he had the scallops and as we live in Hastings he's eaten a lot of scallops in his time - but he said these were the best he's ever tasted. The service is always good - quick and unobtrusive. I can't recommend it highly enough.

It was quite simply the best steak I have ever had! Fantastic.

I was going to have the fillet steak (more regular choice) but our extremely helpful and knowledgeable waiter advised we have the “Christopher’s Special” which was good advice.

It was huge and the taste was amazing. I ate all of mine and the rest of my girlfirend’s. Great wine list too.acmiller29

I went to Christopher's a couple of weeks ago with a friend and we opted for the pre-theatre menu. The food was amazing and really well cooked.

My friend and I both ordered steak (medium rare but more rare than medium for me!) and my friend ordered it well done.

Amazingly, it came exactly as we'd both requested it. Some restaurants don't take into account what you ask for and cook it the way they think best.

Anyway, it was delicious. I had panna cotta for pudding, which again was absolutely amazing. The staff were very courteous and prompt with the service.

We lingered a little longer as we weren't going to the theatre afterwards and there was no problem with this.

It's rare to find a restaurant that serves excellent food cooked to perfection, so I enthusiastically recommend any one to try out Christopher's.

I am going again with a few more friends for my birthday!

The dining room is very pleasant and the staff were polite, if a bit difficult to attract. However, the food is extremely overrated, not to mention overpriced.

The ingredients which went into the dishes were of low quality (spotty black bits of avocado and fatty, limp bacon anyone?). The spinach salad simply failed to be interesting at all (except for the spotty black avocado, which was interesting) and the deep-fried egg it was topped with took it to the verge of unpleasant.

The burger I followed it with was fine, but certainly not worth its share of the £17.50 two-course price.

My companion ordered a "light and healthy" portion of figs and prunes - which came in a huge white bowl containing, erm, 1 fig and a couple of prunes, chopped, in maple syrup.

He then had pancakes (3 small) with "bacon" which was greasy, limp and quite frankly an insult to the pig it came from.

It was really more like ham boiled in oil. They are very cheeky to charge these prices for this quality. There are much better places in London to have brunch.

We should have known by the Covent Garden address that it would be one to avoid.

I started my evening in Christophers at the bar enjoying a drink with friends, and then joined colleagues for a meal in the restaurant later in the evening.

The service in both the bar and the restaurant was excellent, just the right level of attention and the selection of wines available in the bar kept some very fussy people happy.

The food in the restaurant was excellent the overall evening was really enjoyable.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Christophers, especially as a perfect way to start an evening at the Theatre.

A lovely surprise walking off the busy Strand for a bite to eat at 'brunchtime' -

little touches meant the most: peaceful, sunny and thoughtfully decorated room upstairs for the main restaurant, where conversation can flow without fighting to be heard over atmospheric music.

Be prepared to fill your boots with the 2 course set lunch menu!

A good mix of clientele from young professionals to families- fortunately on this occasion they were very well behaved!

It was a tight squeeze to fit the plates on our corner table for two, but the food worth a wait!

I felt fully justified cleaning my plate of both Eggs Benedict followed by a juicy burger perfectly cooked to a point before rare...If I had to vote, also served one of the best Bloody Mary's in London.

The staff were not only very polite and helpful but also watchful without being intrusive.

As soon as help was required their swift presence to the side of the table was guaranteed.

A pleasure to leave a well-deserving tip - I look forward to trying the slightly more lively bar as well on the next occasion!

Visited the venue for the first time, and was not disappointed.

Managed to grab a booth for early evening cocktails with my girlfriend, who's birthday we were celebrating.

We decided to eat from the bar menu for convenience, and chose the medley of fishcakes, accompanied with a hamburger.

The food was well presented, and very tasty. Service could not be faulted, as it was friendly and attentive when appropriate.

Would recommend to anyone, and it's location is perfect for the theatres around covent garden.

I've been taken to Christopher's for two birthday dinners now, and each time it's been a real treat.

I love steak and would rate the steaks I've had here amongst the best I've had.

It's not just about the meat though - my Mum's a big fish fan, and she was very happy with her meal too.

The atmosphere and service are wonderful, and there is an attention to detail that makes you feel like royalty.

What makes it even better is how affordable the pre-theatre menu is - I can't wait to go again!

My visit to Christophers was a spontaneous decision but the memory is definitely a long lasting one.

From the moment you enter the building you get all the attention you could wish for. Everything is very high standard but nonetheless you feel very much at home and the atmosphere at Christophers is very relaxed.

It almost feels like having dinner at a close friend's place. I had a steak which was precisely cooked to my order and the sides were just a delight.

Particularly good were the potato mash with that hint of mustard, the portobello mushrooms and the very tasty spinach. Delicious!

I recently enjoyed brunch at Christopher's and was blown away by the excellent service, quality of food and size of the portions!

Word of warning - do not eat before you go there!!The brunch menu is extensive ranging from breakfast style eggs and fruit, to steaks and burgers.

The food absolutely is delicious and the wait staff were lovely, making us feel welcome from the moment we openned the door.

I will be returning to Christopher's in the not too distant future!

Great service and even a good atmosphere for a Tuesday night.

We hadn't booked in advance and were helpfully accommodated with a table later that evening, so we had drinks in the bar, again a great atmosphere.

Food was great, and I'd definitely go again

The pre-theatre menu at Christopher's is really good value. The food is tasty, well cooked and beautifully presented and the ambience comfortable and friendly. My friend and I lingered over supper well beyond the 'pre-theatre' limits yet the service remained attentive throughout. If you are looking for somewhere sophisticated for good food at a reasonable price, this is the place to go.

If you're looking for a really high quality meal in central London, that's not at ridiculously over-inflated prices, the Christophers is the right place. Whilst the menu might not be cheap, you definitely get what you pay for, in terms of quality and food. Starters, mains and deserts are all delicious, and what's more you can be reassured that not only are the steaks good, the rest of the main courses are just as nice. I will no doubt be coming back again and again, and it's the first place I think of when you want to go somewhere special.

We are delighted with our experience at Christophers, we enjoyed swanky cocktails in the bar before headin up to the restaurant.

We ate off the pre-theatre menu and found the food to be presented beautifully...the taste didn't dissappoint either.

We found the service to be professional and high class and will definately return soon.

Top tip - book a booth for pre-dinner cocktails as this will start your nite off well!

Superb cocktail bar and tasty food.

The bar has a superb range of martinis and cocktails packed with fresh ingredients and flavours! What to choose is the only problem!

Staff are helpful yet unobtrusive. Lovely relaxed but stylish atmosphere, never too busy to enjoy a drink or three.

Would highly recommend for drinks pre or post dinner or theatre.

Not only is the food upstairs great and in smart settings, but the cocktails in the bar downstairs are brilliant too. I keep going back time and time again because Christopher's is relaxing during the day, chic during the evening and funky all the time. If you don't want a full, elegant dinner then you can order some yummy food at the bar. This place will be one of my favourites for a long time to come!

Went to Christopher's last year for one of their brunches and again a a few days ago to meet friends for a drink.

Firstly the brunch was fantastic: bloody marys in the bar downstairs waiting for all friends to arrive the upstairs for GREAT food from an extensive menu. Healthy choices and things from the grill menu. Had a great time and coming back on July 6th!

The bar downstairs is a great place to meet people after work when you want to go somewhere where you can hear each other talk and sit in pleasant surrondings. Martinis are sublime and I could've quite happily worked my way through the list given enough time. Service from highly attentive staff was impecable.

Top marks! Thanks!

Superb restaurant in Covent Garden serving the most delicious contemporary American food in beautiful surroundings. You go up a candlelit sweeping stone spiral staircase to enter the restaurant, it's all so romantic and elegant without being pretentious or snooty. Staff are warm and friendly, efficient, attentive and knowledgeable. The food is incredibly good, particularly the steak, and there's a funky cocktail bar downstairs too.

I selected this restaurant based on reviews from previous diners and a horror of being
offended by rude staff so often a complaint.
The restuarant and the staff lived up to the
good reviews. My party consisted of 3 Americans and one London restauranteur.
We had him choose the wines! The menu was varied and although above average price wise quite acceptable as the portions
were ample and the food of a good standard. 12+% is added to the bill for the gratuity .

I went to Christopher's with my parents early Dec, having not been for some years. It did not disappoint. The food overall was good, the service outstanding (attentive but not overbearing), and the price very reasonable. Of note, the carpaccio starter is something else and the venison and lamb were, as usual for their meat dishes, superb. I particularly enjoyed the venison with dried plums and blueberry glaze, interesting and delicious. A bit noisy on a Friday lunch pre-xmas and the creamed spinach was sadly a little too salty, but otherwise no complaints! Strongly recommended - especially for meat lovers.

Dear Anonymous,

I'd like to offer my sincere apologies to the reviewer dated 29th March. I was very sorry to see you had an unpleasant experience at Christopher’s. I can only imagine how hard the past months have been for you and your family and it was a terrible shame that Christopher’s did not live up to the expectations you had, especially as you had planned a very special celebration for your mother.

However, despite how it may have been perceived, it was not our staff’s intention to, Look you up and down. We do not have a dress code and want all our diners to enjoy their experience. I will be speaking to the General Manager at Christopher’s in an effort to find out what has happened with respect to your request for a specific table. Perhaps the particular table had been reserved in advance but thank you for bringing it to my attention.

Nevertheless, I would like to take this opportunity to reassure you (and hope that you believe me when I say) that we have a deserved reputation for providing the overwhelming majority of our guests with good service and excellent food, although on this occasion we clearly failed you.

If the reviewer would be willing, we ask them to please call Christopher’s Head Office (020 7584-5556) and ask for me to discuss the matter in more detail. If I am not in please leave your phone number or email and I will get back to you.

I thought from the reviews Christopers American Bar and Grill looked like a funky American grill with an upmarket edge. My mum has cancer and has just finished treatment so I took her to London as a special treat and this placed looked perfect.

When I arrived I was very disappointed. I was dressed in clean smart jeans (had to travel light) and was looked up and down by the receptionist as soon as I walked through the door. I had asked for a side table explaining that I had a a balance disorder and didn't like being seated centrally as the noise can make me feel really dizzy. We got upstairs to find we were seated centrally amongst the tables.

When we asked to move to another table which was free, we were told it was a table for four, however, ten minutes after we arrived a couple arrived and were seated there.

Food on theatre menu was average with small portions and very uninspired on the salad front to accompany the starter and main course. I really thought this was going to be a great dinining experience especially for mum and was sorely disappointed especially by the snob element by the staff, which is disgusting. I wouldn't recommend Christophers and wouldn't go back.

What a fantastic place to visit after a night at the theatre. From the moment you are welcomed into the restaurant until the time you leave, nothing is too much trouble at Christophers American Bar & Grill. The post theatre supper is excellent value for money with superb choices for all three courses. The service is wonderful but don't be fooled into thinking the champagne offered to you by the waitress is complementary. The wine is quite expensive but good.

On the whole I would recommend Christophers American Bar & Grill to anyone. Its beautiful decor, ambience and friendly staff, along with its high standard of food, make it a sure winner.

A perfectly chilled bottle of champange went down nicely with the fresh figs and yogurt, pancakes, and eggs Benedict. Christophers American Bar & Grill will be top of my list for any special occasion.
