Rudest Manager I have ever had to deal with. I tried to reserve a small area for a charity drinks reception at 5pm, not exactly their busy time, and the manager said that he did not need my business (!) and did not want the booking. Even the bar woman told him he was being a prick.
He obviously felt that his bar was too cool- I will never go there again with friends or business.
Never before have I seen a fight where the drinking establishment's landlady is the one starting it. This was the scene before me the last (and I mean The Last) time I drank in the Tavern. Having spent a quiet evening with friends, I watched the pub's landlady approach the table next to me and "kick off". She was more than rude, she was aggressive and in their faces. At one stage I thought she was going to hit her, female, customer. Her poor staff didn't know what to do and simply raised their shoulders in apology.
The whole scene was hideous; her behaviour disgusting. She was either on drugs or had severe mental health issues. She should NOT be running a pub if her behaviour is triggered to act thus. If that is how she treats her paying customers then I definitely will not be going here again.
Rudest bar in shoreditch, after my boyfriend asked for his wine to be served in a wine glass and not a tumbler?? we were told we would have to buy a bottle to be even considered to be served wine glasses. This then led to the 'manager' taunting us as we stood outside smoking!! Much cooler and sophisticated chic pubs round the corner, don't bother with this upitself past it boozer.
And yes, normally wine is served in wine glasses and champagne is served in ' special champagne glasses' called flutes, not served in coca cola glasses. Uber rude attitude, only for its location does it do business. Avoid at all costs.
I quite like this bar. Really interesting decor, stylish and unique. It's just a shame its in grubby Shoreditch.
Similar experience to others reviewed here - the male owner threw us out a minute after walking in, the only reason given - 'don't like the look of you, get out you sightseers and go back to Columbia'. We were further abused as we walked out. It was a truly distressing and humiliating experience going to this pub - to be avoided at all costs. For the record, we were sober, well behaved and walked out without uttering a word of protest or argument (in fear of the crazy owner!).
What an evening. We had a good time, the bar staff were friendly, the beer was good and the toilets were clean (!).
All was well until the landlord came to collect our empties:"Can I take these?"My friend: "Yes, help yourself.""Don't you dare talk to me like that..."...and so it began.
The landlord (we confirmed this with the bar staff) launched into a tirade of personal abuse. We insisted he had misunderstood, but he wasn't interested.
"We don't want your sort round here..."; "**** off you *** ****..." He even removed a friend’s glasses as a treat!
You get the picture. Other drinkers around us were as baffled as we were.
A real shame: it's a nice place, but I certainly won't be going back, in fact: I'd love it if a truck ran through the front window!!!
BEST AVOIDED!!!
The most unfriendly place i've visited in a long while. The staff do not crack a smile and you feel as though you've put them out when you're ordering a drink. If you dare take a photo, you will be chucked out on your rear by the so called manger. the drinks are pricey and if your a small buch of pretty 20 somethings the female staff do not like you - wonder why? never felt so uncomfortable in a pub!!
Extremely camp and all the better for it. Makes living round here worth it!
