The ViewLondon Review
Once the ladies and, of course, gents, set aside their disappointment that Cosmobar isn’t an extension to their favourite hair and beauty magazine, they’ll quickly realise this is a nifty venue with real spark. The VenueEven though Cosmobar is a short walk from either Farringdon or Barbican tube stations, the venue fits itself perfectly into its surroundings. While the place isn’t overly large, it has done its utmost, and succeeded, in utilising the area available. It’s split into three rooms; the main bar decked out in decadent reds, the club bar complete with cosy leather couches, and a room dedicated to music with the dancefloor. Unfortunately, there is a real risk of this place becoming overcrowded and, while this may be good for atmosphere purposes, for getting from point A to B it can be tricky – the tight staircase being the most appropriate example. The downstairs rooms feel claustrophobic; however, the venue has a good air conditioning system that prevents any real discomfort.
The AtmosphereIn short, Cosmobar is extremely lively and friendly. Everyone has been to bars where the guys have too much front and the girls too much show – fortunately, Cosmobar does not suffer this in the slightest. Everyone is there to have a good time, the pole-dancing pole in the middle of the downstairs bar presents an unusual opportunity for some good-hearted laughs. With seasonal parties and seemingly frequent events, some focussed on live jazz others on just good honest dancing, you can understand why the crowd is drawn here.
The DrinkWhile not the cheapest drinks in London, Cosmobar certainly keep the prices on the right side of reasonable. You will be looking at just over £3 for a beer and £4 for a spirit with mixer. Before 10pm there is a happy hour offer where 4 shooters will cost you only £10 – providing a good starting point for your evening. Although you could feel slightly patronised by plastic glasses, ultimately it serves in everyone’s best interests and you don’t find yourself walking over glass as your evening continues. Although there are two bars in the venue, both are on the small side and, unfortunately, the crush to get more drinks as your night progresses can be a little daunting. That said, you can’t fault the bar staff who keep smiling under pressure and really make the place work.
The Last WordYou would be hard pressed not to have a good evening at Cosmobar. Although the logistics on the size of the venue are a minus point, realistically this only adds to the feel and overall spirit of the bar.
