The ViewLondon Review
When you think of Champagne bars, West Kensington is not the first place that comes to mind, but if you can look past the sports pubs and chicken shacks, perhaps an injection of Champagne chic is just what the area needs. The VenueJust north of West Kensington station is where this curiously stylish and oddly located bar is found. Upon walking through the doors, simple luxuries greet your senses.
The walls are painted a rich slate grey, adorned with modern light fixtures, and soft velvet chairs in rose and blue give you an opportunity to comfortably lounge. As you move deeper within Crescent Champagne Bar you reach the main area and bar. Here, smartly dressed bartenders shake up complicated (and tasty) concoctions above a glowing bar, among a sea of more comfortable chairs and couches. The centerpiece of the room is a large glowing chandelier - look closely and you’ll notice the crystals are actually creatively arranged Champagne glasses.
The AtmosphereCrescent Champagne Bar brings in an eclectic mix of stylish young professionals and West Kensington locals. Here, they mix and mingle amongst the mellow ambient music and free flowing cocktails. The dress code leans more towards smart casual. Great service is found at the bar – the staff are courteous and quick to take your order, but expect to pay for it, as a service charge will be added to your bill.
The FoodThe main focus of the establishment is the Champagne (naturally) and cocktails, but there are nibbles on hand to keep you fuelled for an evening of fun. Dishes of olives, sweet peppers and cheese (£3 each) are available and little dishes of blanched cashews and dried fruit are thoughtfully brought to tables as a complimentary treat.
The DrinkThis is where Crescent Champagne Bar shines, as the Champagne and cocktail list is quite extensive and impressive. Bottles of Champagne range from a reasonable Moet Chandon (£60) to an exclusive Ace of Spades – Armand de Brignac Rose (£800). Glasses of house Champagne (£9) are on offer, but the Champagne cocktails (£10) seem to be a wiser and more flavourful choice. The tasty Fraise Bellini (£9) mixes Chambord, fresh peach and Champagne. Passionata (£8) blends together 42 Below vodka, redcurrants, passion fruit, lemon juice and sugar, frapped and topped with Champagne. Slap and Tickle (£9) is a blend of Kanu coconut rum, Plymouth sloe gin, lemon, lime and mango syrup served on the rocks. They’re all well blended and the use of premium spirits is a nice touch of quality that comes through in the crispness of each drink
For those who prefer a beer over a cocktail, Crescent Champagne Bar offers bottles of Tiger, Corona and Peroni (£4) and half pints of Birra Moretti and Amstel (£3).
The Last WordSkillfully created cocktails and top-notch service are at the heart of Crescent Champagne Bar. However, in a time where bars close just as fast as they open, here’s hoping West Londoners continue to desire the glamour of Champagne and indulge in this great little bar.
