This is easily the best pub on Dean Street with Crown included in the name. However their strict entry code of no monocles, Greek-cypriots, Northerners, face masks, megaphones, people called jp and strict ban on Ross might be an issue for some.

I fully support the discrimination against Northerners and Greek Cypriot as they tend to be disruptive and add very little to the fabric of a night out but am aghast at the singling out of monacle wearers, ask yourself, are they really that bad?
i have often had an engaging evening with such individuals and their single vision view on life. I urge the CATC to reconsider

Having not yet frequented this establishment and being a keen monoculista (a little like a fashionista, but with slightly more tweed) I was delighted to see that the Crown has a monocle friendly policy. However, reading the reviews I am slightly concerend about how I will be treated being half English and half Spanish. Any prejudice towards my chorizo habits, will not be taken lightly.. I have chosen to give them the benfit of the doubt for now and award a full 5 stars.. Enrique Manuelo Gonzagues III

I must commend this gentleman for drawing attention to this scurrilous behaviour. I too have been subjected to regular persecution and taunts at this establishment; 'oi, 2 eyes', 'Cyclops Head', and 'Lord Charles' to name but a few. This has caused me much embarrassment, particularly on my recent hosting of the annual gala dinner for the Cravat and Monocle Club of Henley. I have treated gypos with more courtesy and it would be a terrific idea if the establishment would clamp down on these ruffians!

I am also concerned about the no monocles policy as being gay I hate any form of discrimination - in fact I was very surprised as I went there with my partner (ian) last night and we were both wearing leather pants with our buttocks on display and we had no issues getting in. To be fair neither of us were wearing monocles (it would have ruined the look.) so didnt experience the draconian monocle policy. As for the 'no Greek' . Well lets just say that would be a big problem for ian as he loves Greek. I did see a lot of 'media darrrlllinnnggss' in there though (and thats just the fellas) plus the gq types - you know the ones - 'hi my name is Scott and I wear anything gq says is cool.'

That said its a cool bar and very close to the Compton area which suits me and ian just fine. If you are going to visit please make sure you have warm hands before you push through the crowd - I spilled my babysham last night due to cold hands on buttocks. Not good.

I was shocked to read this review after I have been going to the Crown and Two Chairmen for the last year after work.

I always find the bar staff to be very cheery and make the place feel alive.

I work in media and happily bring clients there for a drink and am pleased to have a local in Soho!

This review seriously needs to be updated. I have been to the crown and two chairmen regularly since the summer of 2008 and it's very good. It retains the character of a traditional pub whilst also having a new modern trendy twist to it. There is no longer football upstairs, the barstaff are friendly and not slow, and in comparison to a few pubs in the 50 metre radius it's much better.
