We had pretheatre menu which was great value for a tenner - i had ropa vieja, a cuban plate, which was comfort food, but tasty. One of us had sesame tuna, which was in think slices and looked good. Delicious cocktails - worth booking at peak times as it was full when we arrived
Pre-Theatre Menu really very good value at £8.95 - decentish chilli-tuna cakes and an awesome dessert - lime/cream/meringue pie or something like that. We got the Happy Hour cocktails too - was busy and not that fast, but good.
Excellent Mojitos which were not expensive by London standards and some very passable food. We were surprised at how reasonable the bill was and we'll be back!
Really terrible service and when we refused to pay the service charge for this reason we got a lot of back chat and dirty looks from the waitress. The food took an hour to come and we waited 40 minutes to pay the bill. There was only 3 of us and it wasn't that busy. Also they weren't clear on what they offered with the view card which led to plenty of annoyance and trouble. Food and drink overall was nice but everything else terrible and spoilt the evening.
Good and inexpensive food which appeared to be made to order, judging by the open view of the kitchen. Excellent steaks and a very filling Cuban spicy chicken main course - the tapas were pretty good as well, but some of them also very filling. The ceviche and the chicken, chorizo and guava skewer were higlights. We had smoothies, which tasted very fresh and were some of the best I've had anywhere - no Cuban beer was available, which was a shame, but we had a very good Spanish one and some house wine, which was nice for the cost. Cubana is a good place for an inexpensive and fun night out and the quality of the food surprised me.
I was visiting on business and stayed at a local hotel where they recommended this place - I had been before and had a good experience, so I tried it again. I went for dinner and had a top class steak and a couple of cocktails - I think the food has improved, though it was pretty decent before.
The bill came to £25 with service - everything was pretty good quality and nicely cooked and the waitress was friendly, though I wanted a bit for my second cocktail. Fair value, though, as it's not an expensive place with a nice feel about it and I would go again next time I'm in Waterloo.
Went with friends for the pre-theatre menu which at just over £10 or so was very good value, as were the cocktails, which tasted lovely and fresh. With two drinks each - Mojitos and Daiquiris - it came to just over £20 with service. I honestly think this place is excellent value with a nice feel about it.
Really bad! went there we had the worst mojitos ever. Food was not really good. We ask for omellete and they served a burnt and cold kind of omellete. Everything was quite expensive. Very disappointed!
I had been to Cubana before and liked it as a place for really good value, fresh cocktails more than for food. I went back recently and ate with friends and was pleasantly surprised - it has improved a lot. We ate tapas, folled by a sesame tuna dish, marinated sirloin steak and a Cuban chicken dish - all great and sizzlingly fresh and the desserts were very good too - excellent value
Absolutley awful, one of the worst restaurant/bars I have ever been to. My friends and I went to Cubana to take advantage of some tasty food and the Happy Hour, only to be confronted by the worst customer service I have ever encountered. The waitresses had severe attitude problems - snatching menus, slamming knives and forks on the table, hurrying us up to eat and go! And still had the audacity to add a 12.5% service charge onto our bill. I don't think so! The food itself was oily and tasteless. Don't waste your time or your money.
Staff were incredibly RUDE! Kept hassling us to order food and when we said we needed 5mins they didn't come back for another mins asking us again to order food otherwise we would have to leave the table. When we told the waitress that we wanted to order food, she then said we had to order now! OK so we did and then she snatched the menus out of our hands and walked off in a sulk!
When the food finally arrived it was disgusting! Oily battered prawns and soggy wedges! Really not worth our money at all.
The bill arrived and we told the waitress we didn't think it was fair for us to pay service charge, she told us that's fine but that we had to leave!!
I would not recommend this place. Don't bother! you'll have a better night elsewhere!
Some great value food - very substantial tapas sharing plates and lovely sesame seared tuna. I've had better arepas, but good to see the food being prepared in the open kitchen. Lovely cocktails and superb passion fruit smoothie. We had to wait 30 mins for a table though - the place gets busy at night. Really good value and the staff were great + crazy Cuban band played later!
Good home cooking! We had empanadas, chorizo croquettes (delicious!) and ceviche (quite spicy) followed by marinated steak and a Cuban chicken dish and creole prawns - all pretty good, especially as the cost per head for two courses came to well under £20 with a cocktail each - not the flashest place i have ever been to, but good, fresh fare!
We went for lunch - it wasn't that busy and we were told Cubana is mainly an evening place. The smoothies were excellent - I had a passion fruit one and you could taste it was made with fresh fruit.
We all ate the Cantina Lunch - at two courses for £6.95 (plus service - which they don't make clear enough) it was good value. We had chilli tuna cakes, a seared tuna dish and Pollo Criollo - the tuna was great and the Cuban chicken a bit filling, but very nice. One choice was unavailable, but we were offered an alternative. Not haute cuisine, but good value, fresh and and different.
Went to Cubana last week and had a great time. we had mixed Tapas and tuna and steak as a main. Really nice decor and interesting music. Service was quick and with the smile on their face. Loved the guns ( boys toys :)) We will be back soon. Would highly recommend.
Went with some friends last weekend and had a good time - this is not an expensive place, so don't expect a 5* fit out, but it's different, authentic and the food and cocktails taste fresh. We had tuna cake starters + sesame tuna, sirloin steaks and Ropa Vieja mains as well as some excellent cocktails. Service was v friendly and the late night live band was great - all in all, a very good night out and not expensive.

Went there with few friends on the first week of November. It was one of the worst nights I have had out in London. Our food came more than an hour late. The inactivity of the manager to solve the problem and the inability to apologize in anyway make us to refuse to pay our food bill. I would no way recommend this place to anyone.
If I could give no stars I would. I was really disappointed with Cubana- I had read some great reviews and was looking forward to soaking up the Cuban culture via the music food and drink but all were lacking. We could barely hear any music and the whole place had a grubby feel about it, the tables were not clean and sticky and the toilets were awful. We ordered pitchers of Mojitos but what arrived at the table is best described as lime and sugar water barely any alcohol in the jug at all. The food was very disappointing- as a vegetarian who does not eat egg the only main meal available was an omelette so I had to order two starters- the bread dish and the rosti. Both were bland stodgy and had no flavour.
Went to Las Iguanas down the road after and had a much more enjoyable time
Awful service, rubbish mojitos and one of our party ordered from the set menu but only received her starter. Unapologetic staff who shrugged when we complained.
Great food with a Latin twistSuperb fresh smoothies than taste so much better than you get in a plastic bottle.
What's more - I even enjoyed the live music they put on while I tucked into the best steak Ive had in a restaurant for some time, served with a sweet potato rosti.
If only I could work out how to cook like that at home.
Went with work colleage for lunch and had one of their cantina meals.
My chicken was really tender which makes a change from a lot of places. I'd never had fried plantain - so that was an experience. Nice too!
Suspect the restaurant is more lively of an evening, but was busy, but not overly so at lunchtime. Service was prompt, and we were in and out in around 90 minutes which suited us.
This isn't the first time Ive been to Cubana - and I wasn't disappointed again.
I guess you can go for a couple of reasons.
One the happy hour cocktails, which certainly hit the spot (try something with their Cuban rum), and then their food which is different from the usual chain restaurants that seem to dominate London more and more.
The place has rickety tables and quirky Cuban decor - but worth a visit. Hey I've been back more than once!
With the credit crunch upon us I wanted to take a friend somewhere that had reasonable prices - but was a bit different.
Cubana certainly ticked both those boxes. I'm not a cocktail drinker - but there was certainly lots to choose from in that respect.
I had the most tender lamb dish I ave ever eaten - and the sweet potato was better than my mums (don't tell her).
Well worth a visit if you are looking fora great place with good atmosphere and scrumptious food.
Well I didn't know what to expect when I went to "Cubana2 as I had no idea what Cuban food was. Actually i still don't reallyu. Similar to Mexican I would say. Had a great chicken dish served with rice, but the coconut ice cream is to die for and worth a visit just to taste that alone.
Venue seemed more of a nightclub than a restaurant - but freshness of the food more than made up for it.
Went to Cubana after work with colleagues. It's like a diamond in the rough. So close to Waterloo to make it really convenient.
Great decor that makes you think you are in Havana. You could imagine Castro would walk in at any moment.
Had a really tasty chicken dish that wasn't too pricey, and the cocktails are amazing. I think they even import their own Cuban rum! A great evening, one I hope to repeat.
If you are looking for something different at a price that won't break the budget Cubana is a decent place to go.
Unfortunately this restaurant has to rank as the worst I have ever been to. My friends and I had booked a table, planning a fun evening in what we thought was one of the funkiest looking restaurants around, as it happened a night that started badly, ended in disbelief.
Upon arriving, our booking was lost (despite having phoned up only two days before and booking). The waitress was not apologetic but we put this down to her just being in a bad mood. We had specifically booked our table for 6pm so we could take full advantage of the happy hour. Having ordered several jugs of happy hour cocktails we were looking forward to some good food in a relaxed atmosphere. Annoyingly only half of our drinks showed up so 30 minutes later we went to gently remind them, they eventually came.
The food came and was pretty tasty. All seemed ok until the bill came: When it arrived - we noticed that two of the happy-hour cocktails we had ordered were charged at full price (£32 vs £17) - when the waitress came over we mentioned this to her, she went to the bar and then came back and said that we had ordered them after happy hour so couldn’t get the discount - it is now that we reminded her that it was the restaurant who had not written down are order originally - she went away again and then came back claiming that "it is on the computer...I cant change the computer" - this in itself was plainly insulting to us and she was not remotely apologetic. We said that was not good enough - she went away again - then came back claiming the drinks we had ordered were not on happy hour - despite clearly being next to the "Happy Hour" wording on the menu. At this point she went away again and brought several other members of staff back telling us that it was our mistake not theirs and we were trying to rip them off!
We said we weren’t happy at which point they continued to be rude and refused to take it off the menu and said they would take our drinks away. This continued
The evening at Cubana started badly because the table that my friend had booked was not vacant when we arrived. We sat elsewhere until our table of choice became available.
My one gripe is that the food is a bit on the pricey side. One empanda costs £4.95. They are nothing more than a very substandard Jamaican pattie. We were starving so we wolfed it down and as I said it tasted good. The food bill alone came to £68.00. Too expensive especially when we didn't have desserts.
I have, however had better sangria with more alcohol and fruit, theirs was very watery. I though it was me until later my friends ordered mojito's that tasted like cold mint tea, there was hardly any alcohol in it.
My other major gripe was how quick the table staff were in removing plates and glasses. We were still eating when they started to clear away plates and my friend was nursing a cocktail when one of the staff snatched her glass from right under her.
The food is so so but pricey and the coktails are substandard. It was a good night but nothing inspires me to come back.
We went to Cubana and had some really good, unpretentious Latin food. The marinated char-grilled chicken skewers were excellent, as was the sirlion steak and a Cuban chicken dish. We also had a veggie tapas sharing plate and loads of very nice, fresh cocktails.
The service was a little pushed and it's not the place to come for a quiet dinner, especially on a Friday, but overall Cubana is a real find - very un-corporate, very different, with a nice crowd and good late night music. And the whole evening with food and drinks came to £30.00 a head.
We had a fabulous time at Cubana recently. There was good veggie food, including a lovely char-grilled tuna and a good chick-pea casserole. The others had organic chorizo salad and very good steaks. The cocktails and smoothies were fresh and lovely, especially the Mojitos, and service was good though Cubana was busy. All in all we had a great time.
Cubana has excellent cocktails and really nice, different food at good prices. I have had to wait for tables and when Cubana is busy the service does get slow, but this is not an expensive place and they do make everything freshly and they make an effort.
I have been for drinks, meals and parties and always enjoy myself - the Latin vibe at Cubana is genuine and the late music great.
Cubana is my local - it can get very full at weekends but generally the service is very friendly. We go for the Cubana cocktail jugs which are incredible value, especially at Happy Hour and to be honest I have not had better tropical fruit cocktails anywhere else.
The food is pretty good, again, for the price. You can see the cooks preparing it in the kitchen and it is fresh and different. The steaks are top notch and the Latin food spicy and good value. I have had the odd ocassion when staff have been too pushed, but we all love Cubana, above all when the late night live music is on
I have always had good food and great cocktails at Cubana - for the prices they charge, the value is really good. This is a very different, original place which does get very busy on Fridays etc, but that's part of the charm. Late opening and live music at Cubana are a bonus.
I work close to Cubana and we go regularly - most of the time I have had excellent fresh cocktails and good, very different food and always come away pleasantly surprised by the prices. The live music at Cubana is also pretty good and the place is authentic, but can be busy.
Cubana was uniquely incompetent, they lost my order, returned after an hour to ask when I reminded them.
Not particularly apologetic either.
Who has the time to bother with that level of idiocy? Plus they could not open the till to allow me to pay at Cubana.
I was happy to pay for an over-priced cocktail at Cubana until the evening took a turn for the worst and my handbag was stolen from right under my nose, despite the fact that there were only 4 people in the entire bar.
Upon reporting this the barstaff were the most unhelpful people I have ever encountered. Not even the manager could be bothered to pretend. "Oh Yeah", he said, "That happens a lot in here". Cubana is handily near a police station though, so you can report your theft within 10 minutes.
Cubana does fabulous smoothies - mine was fresh passion fruits. I had their £7.95 for 3 courses and with the smoothie and coffee it came to not much more than a tenner for fresh, interesting, healthy food. I've also been in the evening and though Cubana does get crowded, I love it!
Cubana is hot! Defintely the best cocktails in London, especially for the money. Fresh, fruity and unlike some other Cuban bars, they use real Cuban rum. Food is orginal and good, rather than great, but again, good value.
It gets crowded at the end of the week and service can be variable - but overall, Cubana is a fantastic place with late hours and live music as a bonus.
Cubana serves the best cocktails in London in my opinion!
I was very disappointed by Cubana. The staff have little or no concept of customer service and appear far more willing to serve the off-duty staff drinks than the customers who have been patiently waiting. When we went to Cubana we had a nearly-new pitcher taken away and binned without a word. Upon querying this we were met with rudeness and blank stares. It is fair to say I will never be going back to Cubana.
