Used to go to Dalston Jazz Bar quite regularly until the angriest bouncer of all time started asking for money to get in when just a few weeks before it was free? When questioned became incredibly aggressive. Haven't been robbed there but it wouldn't surprise me. Save yourself the bother and go to Passing clouds. That's how to run a good place in Dalston.

Actually DO NOT GO THERE. We discovered this bar a couple of months ago and thought it was great. That was until the other day when both my girlfriend and her friend woke up the next day to discover their wallets had been nicked. Whoever it was had drawn out £2800 from one of their accounts and £160 from the other. All these transactions happened within minutes of processing card transactions at the Dalston Jazz Bar. I wish that we had seen these reviews before - something is definately going on there. I reckon that they are all in on it. They must be using the CCTV to read your PIN at the bar and then someone in the crowd is stealing wallets. Someone must be reviewing the CCTV in real time and telling criminals in the crowd who to target. The place is so packed that this would be easy to do. All of you who have had your wallets stolen should contact the police, we are at the moment - if enough of you do it we can hopefully get this place shut down.

DO GO THERE... I've been going to the Jazz bar Dalston for several years now, some people are haters and walk away others love it.. they have great cocktails for which you don't have to wait too long and are reasonably priced. Yes it does get packed and you do get to meet new people and make friends. Unlike some sterile places in Dalston where it's all about looks and style fascist.... One word of caution dress like it's summer cause it does get hot in there.

Well, we were having a good time (even though it smells of armpit) until the owner forcefully seperated my friend from our group, surrounded her with the bouncer and shouted abuse at her for not kissing his friend. I thought he was going to punch her. Extremely frightening and upsetting.

DO NOT GO HERE.
Me and my friends have been robbed the past 3 times we've been here. They let far too many people in. Health & safety might want to look at this.
Please don't go here unless you want your phone nicked out of your front pocket or bag!

Oh my god, don't go to Dalston Jazz Bar! The owner is the rudest little man I've ever met, such an overrated place. Trust me. Go to the superstore in dalston, by far the best place to drink and dance!

this place is really bad! I think the bouncers are in on some kind of scam. Funny how loads of people get their wallets nicked from their pockets in here!

Staff were heard telling people to F off. Bar was extremely over crowded and the music was at a dangerously loud level.

No chill out or smoking area (other than the street, where you cannot take drinks).

Generally full of very drunk 20-25 year-olds moving their heads to the music. And, of course, no jazz!

Appauling. See the dark side of the gentrification of dalston/hackney (is there any other?) Violent, Rude, arrogant and obnoxious owner and doormen. Avoid at all costs!! Wrong people, wrong everything. Try Bar 22 up the street.

If you're going to be a snob about "wrong people", at least back up your snobbery with correct spelling instead of making up words like "appauling".

You appear to have completely missed the point of the venue - it hardly pretends to be cresting the wave of gentrification.

It aims to provide cheap, late-night drinks and unpretentious music for an easygoing crowd, and you would have to be fairly unobservant to mistake it for some kind of upmarket lounge.

The Jazz Bar Dalston is a great place! I used to live around the corner and would come there several times a week. It is not the most beautiful of places, but it has a charm that most other places miss. If you like good jazzy vibes I highly recommend the Jazz Bar Dalston, even though it is not in the best of locations.
