I love De Hems. I only get to London a few times a year and when I am there I love to take in this bar. Last time I was there we decided to get a beer recommendation from the girl behind the bar. I have to say the choice was great and I said that next time I am in London we will get to De Hems early and go through the Beer menu. Cant wait!

I have been to De Hems over the years and being Dutch and living in London I have seen its many changes. It has recently been refurbished and I am sad to say that it has changed from a Dutch bar to a Dutch themed bar with a very English menu.

The posters outside offer passers-by the best of British and the menus are everything British...from Bangers and Mash to Yorkshire pudding.

De Hems seems to have be taken over by a large corporation and has been branded with Nicholsons point of sale material. Gone are the signed Dutch football shirts and the Ajax pictures which were dotted around the building! What's happening?

If you're a fan of excellent Belgian/Dutch beers, then De Hems is a must for you to visit. The selection of beers is good and is sufficiently different from other Belgian/Dutch places to make it stand out.

The actual place itself is contained in a fairly compact site in the easily accessible Chinatown. The upstairs bar is far superior to the downstairs bar at De Hems which can get horrifically busy and is usually blasted with loud music.

My only reservation about De Hems is its insistence on being a loud and kicking joint on Saturday nights. It tends to spoil the Continental feel and attracts the wrong crowd, in my opinion.

De Hems is a great pub just off of Chinatown in the Soho area. It is a friendly, fun pub with great bartenders, great beer selections and a nice crowd. The Bartender Mikken let us taste several beers before making our selection. The upstairs room has a great atmosphere, more quiet and less busy than the street level. Highly recommended. Try some different Dutch and Belgian beers at this gem within a city known for pubs!
