I have just eaten in the Druid's head and it was without shadow of doubt the worst pub meal that I have ever had! Seriously, the worst.
We ordered a platter to share which included BBQ chicken skewer. The platter arrived minus the chicken. I pointed this out to the waitress who reappeared 5 minutes later with a ceramic bowl with approx 6 pieces of white, anaemic looking chicken lumps, coated in a brown sludge. I asked what this was, and she said BBQ chicken. I tried to lift a piece out of the bowl and the whole lot came out in one gluttonous mass. Clearly the contents had been microwaved and was certainly not BBQ. I pointed this out to the waitress who asked me if I wanted to complain, in a manner that suggested it wasn't the first time she had encountered a dissatisfied customer. The manager appeared and I explained to him that I had been expecting a skewer and that the chicken would have more or less met the description on the menu, of being BBQ and on a skewer. His response was that "this is how we do it now". I said it tasted revolting and he said sorry. I asked was it BBQ and he replied that it was cooked under a grill. When I pointed out that it was still white without evening a hint of browning, he said he didn't know why that was. I was at the very least expecting him to take the item away and cook it properly, but no such luck. In the end, he just walked away. So I tucked into my rubbery white chicken lumps and sticky brown sauce, feeling quite nauseous. The rest of the platter was deep fried grease balls that tasted of 3 day old cooking oil and little else. Trust me, eat somewhere else then go the Druids Head for the decent selection of beer and Sky TV.

I love this pub - during the day and early evenings it's fairly steady, with plenty of corners to sit with a drink and put your feet up. There are sofas on both floors, three bars, and a snug with an open fire. The background music isn't annoying. The food is generous and very delicious, and is great value for money. The drinks are average price. The only times I avoid the Druid is on Friday / Saturday nights and during the football, because it gets crowded. The loos are basic, but I didn't notice them being dirty. All the staff I've talked to are really polite.
