i am from spain and i have a good memories of the DUCK OF KENT , nice place and nice people, thanks, and good luck.
My boyfriend and I went for a meal a couple of weeks ago. While his was very good, I ordered Pumpkin Ravioli and it was miniscule! Just TWO pieces of ravioli with a drizzle of tomato sauce and a handful of rocket for £8. I had to go back and order a starter as I was still ravenous. Explained to the woman at the bar that I was very disappointed with the portion size, but she clearly couldn't have cared less.
So I was reluctant to go with friends on a bank holiday weekend, but was lured by the large beer garden. Six of us arrived late afternoon and spent around three hours there. We are all in our late 20s/early 30s and professional, so imagine our disgust when two of our party were pulled aside by a barman and told we were using the toilet 'too regularly' and accused of doing drugs!!
I was shocked - firstly by the fact that staff were taking such a close interest in how often we went to the toilet, and secondly by their failure to comprehend that alcohol makes you need to wee! A lot of alcohol means a lot of weeing!
What an ignorant and very offensive way for staff to behave. Back to The Village Inn in future, where I can use the toilet as often as I need to, no questions asked.
Since moving to Ealing 12 months ago, my family, friends and I have enjoyed a number of visits to this pub.
A good selection of beers, good food, great beer garden and friendly bar staff. However, if you want to enjoy birthday drinks with your best friend or be treated fairly and with respect by the bar manager, find somewhere else to go.
Here’s what happened to me:My 46th birthday with my best friend was cut short on a Thursday afternoon in late May by the manager, who decided that we had had enough to drink and instructed his bar staff not to serve us any more.
He was right because we had more than we would usually have, but we were encouraged to drink by the manager and his bar staff who regularly approached our table to ask us whether we wanted another round.
As the drink flowed, we became noisier and the manager asked us to keep it quiet. We tried but in reality we were two friends out celebrating a birthday and it proved difficult.
But were we really doing any harm? It is a pub, after all. There were no more than a handful of customers present at any time, we were not aggressive to anyone, nor was our language foul at any time.
I’ve never been refused a drink before. My birthday was spoiled. This is not the pub to go to, if you want a good time.
However, imagine returning a month later and before having a chance to ask for anything other than what was their selection of non-alcoholic beers, being told by the same manager, in front of your heavily pregnant partner and 12 or so customers at the bar “After your behaviour last time, it’s just one warning for you this time”.
This is what happened to me on Friday evening. But if the manager felt that he needed to do something, wouldn’t it have been better to talk to me discreetly or perhaps just keep a watchful eye?
The manager’s officious behaviour unnecessarily humiliated me in front of someone I care deeply
I really liked this pub. The atmosphere was good, welcoming, not too quiet, with a busy feel but relaxing enough to just chat to friends. We went for Sunday lunch, we were a little later than we would usually go out and this did mean that the roasts had more or less run out, but I had a fabulous Game pie which was just as good.
I would tell any of my friends to go here. It was great.
They even had some board games.
This pub has very welcoming atmosphere. It has very good garden and good quality food. Staff are very friendly too. I have been twice now, and coming back tomorrow again. Highly recommended if you are seeking to have a good time with your friends and family with meals.
