Ealing Park Tavern is an aspiring gastropub with a convivial atmosphere situated in a quiet part of Ealing.

The Venue
The rather grand exterior of the Ealing Park Tavern is a reflection of its Nineteenth Century roots. The mix of red brick chimney stacks and its blue and white triangular facade stands the pub well apart from the newsagents and takeaways that typically line this part of the South Ealing Road.

The spacious interior comprises a bar area and rather refined dining rooms. The bar section resembles an old fashioned drawing room with comfortable leather sofas, standard lamps, open fireplaces and mirrors. If you miss out on the sofas there are a number of wooden desks that, despite appearing to have been left over from a classroom, are comfortable. These can also be found in the outside patio area where huge umbrellas provide protection from bad weather and are fitted with heaters for when the evening chill sets in. The stone slab tables in the garden seem somewhat out of character and are perhaps more suited for pagan rituals, although it will probably only be your sobriety that is sacrificed here.

The Atmosphere
The emphasis at the Ealing Park Tavern is definitely on relaxation with a generally cosy atmosphere helped by the laid back jazz emanating (perhaps a touch too loudly) from the speakers. The South Ealing Road can get pretty busy but you're unlikely to notice as you bury yourself in the daily papers. The clientele are of the young and affluent variety and the bar staff are friendly and keen to help. Though the bar is generally quiet the restaurant area, which does two sittings a day, tends to fill up quickly.

The Food
If you're not looking for a formal meal then the bar at the Ealing Park Tavern has its own food preparation area, which serves up a good selection of cold Tapas (although not entirely Spanish) and sophisticated bar snacks.

The restaurant section offers a predominantly Mediterranean style menu, mainly red meat and fish, which changes on a daily basis. Vegetarians and those with special dietary requirements are also catered for. Prices are moderate for this part of West London. Overall, it is a noble attempt to bring gastropub eating to this leafy area of Ealing.

The Drink
The bar serves continental beers and an interesting selection of spirits. The wine list goes well into double figures although the choices are exclusively olde world and some are only available by the bottle. Each wine is succinctly described on the menu and prices are pretty average for London. If you decide to have a meal then you will find a fine selection of dessert wines and liqueurs with which to wash down your food.

The Last Word
Ealing Park Tavern is a perfectly agreeable venue if you're looking to spend a few quiet hours chilling out in comfort.
