Very good little club! Spacious dance floor where some very good House music was playing. There was air-conditioning too which was good for dancing. Bouncers there were actually friendly and walking around with a smile. I would definitely go back :)

Went there last Friday. The club decor looks very cheap and the interior is just too simple. Maybe I went for a wrong night, but the atmosphere was so dull that we left after 20 minutes.

we went here on a saturday and 4 people in our group had the entire contents of our bags stolen! the staff weren't very helpful either, telling us "this happens all the time". watch your bags in the downstairs club bit!

Went last night to see Sub Focus, but how disappointing. The woman at the door was such a moron-trying to justify that the club downstairs is loud because that's how electo should be heard when we simply just gave some feedback that its way too loud down there. What a fruitloop! I think she needs to retire from door girl status.

The downstairs club/bar is TOO LOUD - Nuff Said! Check out your sound-system! Also I'm sure it broke all the safety regs on capacity. A perfectly good night ruined but overcrowdedness and bad sound system. Go to Berlin and see how bouncers ensure a good night out and actually bounce morons that make it inside to ruin it for others.

The upstairs bar had bad tunes as well, with dj's lacking in technical ability to mix. Monotony and just bad djing.

What a pathetic excuse for a club, definitely won't be a return client, no matter who is playing.

I'd like to give it a half star - 1 star is too generous.

Great venue and good music.

We go all the time to see Norman Jay play and have never had a bad night down there.

This bar has pretty reasonable decor and music but the drinks are pretty poor. i had a mojito that was way too sweet and a daiquiri that had the paint stripper taste that comes with poor quality rum. The staff were also quite rude, i had to wait at the bar for staff to finish their lengthy conversation before they served me. But the biggest issue i have is with the management - we had our coats on the seat where we were sitting and standing and were asked to move them on health and safety grounds which then turned into because they couldn't take responsibility if they were stolen but was actually due to the hefty profit they wanted to make on the cloak room. Trust me there are much better places to spend an £8 cover charge.

I was invited to a Birthday Party on Friday, was told that there will be a charge after 9 but our names would have been on the guestlist and there would be no charge. I ve arrived at 9:04 and was asked to pay £8, I tried to say I was on the guestlist for a birthday party but the door lady would not listen and said that my name was not on the list! It was my best friend’s birthday, I knew I was on that list! After few more minutes of arguing she said I can pay £6 and that is the best she can do!

I entered the bar and it seemed like there was a good atmosphere at first. Then I went to order some drinks, the bar staff are all women! Moreover, slow, rude and not very good looking ones :) What are those managers thinking!? Also there is an annoying guy by the side of the bar, who is supposed to be a glass collector, but is constantly asked for drinks, 'i don’t serve' is all he could say. Overall, getting drinks was a mission and took at least 15 min every time and aggravation from rude bar staff. After a while I also realised they prefer to serve men over women, how sexist is that :)

The 'vip' area and the upstairs bar was a joke, it is so tiny it looks like 'a man in the wall' I felt sorry for the guy, he looked embarrassed to be serving from there :)i did not bother with the downstairs bar but reading the previous reviews it is very loud.2 stars is all I give you people, there is potential, just get rid of half your staff!

how sexist are you, you fool if you think the bar maids are not good looking enough for you.

my guess would be your mate "accidentally" forgot to put you on his list.

East Village rocks..

We went to East Village last week and had a fab time. It was a bit unplanned, we hadn't done our homework on the venue, but we were pleasantly surprised. The interior was a hippy kind of kitch decor, with lots of cool imagery in frames around the posts. They have a separate area on a mezzanine also if you want to escape for a minute.

The bar staff were under a bit of pressure as the venue was busy, but managed to keep their cool, and serve us within 5 minutes. The upstairs bar had a good atmosphere, and was not too rammed unlike downstairs. That's where the party was at. And did we party!

Great tunes, we all had a really good dance and fell out of there a lot later than anticipated. Overall a great night, one well worth checking out.

went to east village on sat night and the DJs upstairs were really lame.

The club has a reputation for quality DJs and being a music lovers club. The tracks played upstairs were unmixed standard pop hits and not what i was expecting. Not that there's anything wrong with pop music but i resent paying £8 to hear pussycat dolls in a club like this.

What was really gutting was seeing posters allover the club with world class DJs on them for every other week than this!

The atmosphere was nowhere near as good as the other times i've been, please don't let these 'DJs' back.

Went to East Village last night, with great expectations. I read on their website that it was £8 to get in before 11 and £10 afterwards.

We were there at 10:30 and were told on the door that it's £10 the entire night. Once in - went to the loo and what do I see on the door? A poster saying that it's £8 to get in before 11!!!!!

Went back to the door and they just denied it, saying that they didn't know what time we came in!

The upstairs bar atmosphere is good, great DJ, it was actually much better upstairs than in the basement dancefloor. The Mezzanine floor, which I looked forward to, was closed off.

Totally agree with the comments on the sound system - it's too loud. I actually woke up with a funny feeling in my ears this morning! The hair on your head & arms stands up from the vibrations, the floor is shaking, as if it was an earhquake when you dance.

Several times during the night I saw people cover up their ears - surely the management should do somehing about it! We were dancing next to a pillar with a shelf where people put their drinks.

During one song we suddenly saw a glass fall on the floor, spilling a drink. OK, I thought someone just bumped it. And then another fell...and another...and another.....The vibrations were so strong that the glasses were moving on their own and falling off the shelf!

We watched in disbelief. I had a good boogie and music was really good, so no complaints about that.

Wear industrial earplugs and insist on £8 before 11...

I Have been going to East village frequently over the last 5months now and think it is a Great club, they are in such a good position to make an even bigger name for their bar/club and they always deliver with there legendary American DJ's!

i also noticed that their staff are changing constantly. i recognise a few of the bartenders everytime i go.

the Staff in the bar i find very rude, especially the lady who has NO Customer service skills What so ever, Which kind of puts me off coming back, as for the staff in the Club are very bubbly and Polite.

Especially the Gorgeous Mixed race girl down stairs. who i recognize as i believe she has been there for a while, and also the gentlemen with the Hat.

i always enjoy East village. and love the Crowd they bring. One word of advice DITCH The RUDE staff!!Johnathan

Went to East Village on Sunday 5th July. David Rodigan and other reggae DJ's where playing.

I found the club style and layout very pleasing and reminded me of a New York style nightclub.

We arrived a bit early so after paying the entrance fee and looking around upstairs we asked if re-entry would be ok and it was.

On re-turning and going downstairs to the dancefloor area; I can only say that the sound level was totally unbearable. I could not understand why the sound system volume was so high.

East Village have clearly spent alot of money on all aspects of the club, sound system also. Electrovoice (EV) are highly recognised in the sound industry; sound engineering is my field of work and I own a 10kW sound system.

The sound designers for East Village sound seem to have installed a system suitable for a large hall with high ceilings or the sound system parameters are set-up badly.

The low frequencies (bass) were harsh, painful and went right through your head; not where bass is intended.

The high and mid frequencies were I'm afraid to say dangerously loud. There was no part of the room to escape the risk of a particular frequency being dangerously intensive.

I'm fully aware that writing this will cause a laugh or two and suggest that my clubbing days are over. But I've listened to countless sound systems over the years; heard good and bad ones.

I also know the sound level a dancefloor crowd need to 'feel' the music and create that heavy club atmosphere. Ministry of Sound, AKA, Fridge, Tiger tiger, On-Anon and many other big clubs understand and get this right (of course there are a few that don't but I wouldn't call these big clubs I guess).

I brought my feelings to the doorman and asked if I could speak to management regarding this matter.

He immediately produced a pair of earplugs and said that management were fully aware

I organised a Summer Ball here earlier this week and the night couldn't have gone better. We booked the ground floor lounge and mezzanine which I think has great character. It's classy and a bit quirky too. A lot of the guests remarked on what a great place it was and that I had made a good choice. I don't understand the comments about the bar staff, although admittedly I've only been here this one time. In any case, I found that they were all very polite and particularly cheery throughout the night. Also, the events manager was very helpful in arranging extra entertainment for the night.

Fantastic place and highly recommended. I'll be going back.

I went to see Simian Mobile Disco on 12th December 2008. I thought the club was excellent and exactly how a club should be. In the basement, nice and dark, great atmosphere, packed to the rafters, a few lasers thrown in and excellent music that just got better and better.

Service at the bar was quick and polite. The drinks were a bit steep, but only what you would expect in London. However, there was free iced tap water available. Overall, I highly recommend it, if there's a DJ you like playing in there.

The venue seems like a nice place, the staff however are rude and obviously have no concept of what good service consists of. I will not be returning.

Perhaps they should rethink their attitude

Okay where do I start... We went to East Village to see Orin Walters play, us and loads of other people who turned up to listen to some descent Broken beat etc, got told he was not on till 3! Then after waiting till 3 and listening to cr*p house, we where told he was not playing. Secondly I asked a guy behind the bar (slowest bar in London) for a bottle of white wine and some crisps, I got a bottle of Red and the crisps where out of date... which would not normally be a problem, however when I asked for another packet he told me to **** off and walked off to serve someone else (NICE). I think this pub is running purly on foot fall and not on providing decent music or a good FRIENDLY service. I give it one star because The Ladybugz and Charlie Dark who played upstairs where awesome, saving the night from being a disaster. East Village - Please sort it out!!!
