The ViewLondon Review
Sister to the Chelsea, Wimbledon and now Cape Town branches, Eclipse is a chi-chi affair situated on probably the most burgeoning eating parade in Notting Hill.
Famous for their Watermelon martinis and sumptuous cocktail list – the offering’s superiority is due in part to all the ingredients being freshly made, and the spirits infused, in house (this is, after all, one of London’s original mixology bars).
Slim, long and pretty – no, we’re not talking Thierry Henry – Eclipse is a delicate affair for delicate types: ladies-who-lunch (though only on Watercress and Dom Perignon), bankers and their girlfriends (their official ones, not the one they keep in a pad in Knightsbridge and only visit on Sunday afternoons) and moviemakers out for a creative snifter.
Relaxed and intimate with low tables and soft leather seating running along the side, Eclipse’s most daring design lies in the toilets, whose walls are elegantly daubed by local graffiti artist Steve O.
The new-and-improved menu is a welcome change, keenly priced and generous, with additions such as home made burgers and Mediterranean platters making an entrance.
Long, low suspended lampshades, a sea green bar and an exposed brickwork, open fireplace with witty lettering framed above it are some of the features in this Café del Mar style venue, where DJs take to the decks on Thursdays and Saturdays and a bongo player accompanies the chillout vibe on Friday nights.
The staff here are always lovely – chatty and friendly and as knowledgeable about their drinks as they are their music.
