I cannot believe Mark Browning's review of El Rincon Latino. I have been eating at El Rincon for the last 3 years, although I must admit mostly on a Sunday afternoon.

I have found their tapas to be excellent. In particular, their Chanquette (friend whitebait) with an alioli dip is so delicious that I have not found it as good anywhere in the South of Spain where I spend a lot of time or any other tapas in London. I go to one of the best Masqueteria who serve fish tapas as well as main meals in the South of Spain and their whitebait does not match up. I also recommend their lamb stew and potato cakes with seranno ham.

It is completely family-run and the chef is one of the brothers and I only can assume he was not in on the time that Mark Browning ate their.

Please don't be put off by this review - give it a try - try the dishes I have suggested.

Having read some of the reviews below of Il Rincon I was spurred into booking a table for Friday night. I was encouraged to hear that the place was completely booked out and even happier that the person taking the booking was helpful enough to reserve me a spot for 2 by the bar. The happy and helpful service of the place is, I’m afraid, their only positive point.
The food was at best passable, Tapas is hardly complicated food to prepare and I was left very disappointed. The worst point came at the end with a virtually inedible fruit concoction.
Although the place has a very friendly atmosphere and the staff are delightful the food was almost embarrassing.
I would recommend to anyone of thinking of eating here to spend your hard earned cash elsewhere. This is well worth avoiding.

I used to work at this place back in 1997 so it is eleven years ago under a different management. I have to admit that when I´ve been back the place has improved considerably in every sense.

It is not a cheap place to eat but I would not say it is too expensive either.

The atmosphere is great and the staff makes you file like home as they are the kind of people that love what they are doing and they know how to run a restaurant. Being where it is out of the high street we should congratulate them for their sucess for all these years

I have to say that food is not comparable to the same tapas eaten in Spain but then buying good quality food in London it is very difficult compared to the food in Spain.

I was saddened to see a bad review written about a south london tapas institution. I was blessed in late 1999 to live around the corner from this fantastic eatery for several years, and frequented this place on many occasions - birthday, business dinners and friday nights with friends. Not once have i had a bad meal, i adore the mejillones. Service has always been excpetional, food great, and atmosphere to match. A family run business, and worth trying and running the risk of falling in love with it. I now live overseas and always make an effort when visiting the area to return.

I went to El Rincon Latino recently for my boyfriend's birthday. Generally we had a good time, with good food. The drinks at El Rincon Latino were expensive but nothing more than you would expect.

The part that really annoyed me as that I bought a small cake along for his b'day. I asked them to light the candles and bring the cake out and they charged me for this. We spent £40.00 a head in El Rincon Latino and I didn't think there was any need to add any extra on to an already large bill. I thought this was very rude.

El Rincon Latino is fantastic! Small (but is currently expanding), lively and fun. Food is the best Tapas I have found in London, and is always well presented. Staff are friendly and helpful. This place gets VERY busy so book ahead!

Never fails to deliver - relaxed/buzzy atmosphere, great tapas and charming staff. Best to phone beforehand midweek onwards.

El Rincon Latino is the most fantastic spot!! I have never had service like I had at El Ricon Latino. The food was fantastic and the atmosphere was unbelievable. It's a must, and especially great for groups and parties!!
