The ViewLondon Review

Reviving what was once one of the trendiest places in Shoreditch, the Electricity Showrooms has transformed itself into a contemporary, cool bar with an added disco twist.

The Venue
Set in old industrial space, in this case – shock horror – a former electricity showroom, the bar is spilt over two levels and sits dominantly on the entrance into Hoxton square like some kind of time honored doorman. A large bar and restaurant welcome you downstairs, where everything from the decor to the clientele are battling for crown cool. Downstairs is less pretentious with a room reminiscent from something out of Saturday Night Fever with it’s bright light disco dancefloor and seventies style, hippie-chic wallpaper.

The Atmosphere
Electricity Showrooms is popular with an uber trendy twenty-to-thirtysomething crowd who come in their hoards to drink, schmooze and stand around looking like they’ve just stepped out of an indie-styled video. Downstairs is less stuffy with a mix of guys and girls, huddled together, swinging their hips on a shockingly bright dancefloor.

The Music
Electricity Showrooms is probably one of the few places in London where you can hear a fifties rockabilly soundtrack all night - the music here is as quirky and cool as the crowd itself. Friday and Saturday nights are best with a selection of electro and fifties sounds in rotation.

The Food
Surpisingly enough for a bar that’s plays second fiddle to the Hoxton hip, the food menu is as down to earth as that of a good ole English pub. Fish fingers and Welsh rarebit, sausage and mash and a chip butty take centre stage and are averagely priced at around the £7.50 mark.

The Drink
All the standard drinks are available at Electricity Showrooms, with a particular emphasis on sprits that come from all corners and are as flavoursome as ever. Prices are average for the area.

The Last Word
This is the perfect spot for a happening drink or boogie to get you in the mood before you hit one of the many clubs in Shoreditch. Much like the original Electricity Showrooms, which rocked Hoxton during the early nineties, the latest bar has all the ingredients to become a stalwart of the scene.
