I had my 30th here last Sat night. Booking was for 26 people. There were lots of rules for the booking - all attendees had to eat and there was a minimum £12 spend on food alone. Also told table bookings were for 2 hours only. It ended up feeling incredibly rushed with not enough time for 3 courses. I also don't think they gave much thought to how they would fit 26 people around a table so they could eat comfortably - we were sitting on top of each other. On the up side, my steak was very good. By the time the 2 hours were up, the place was packed and it was difficult for 26 people to then find space on the dancefloor.

We bought several jugs of cocktails with dinner which I have to say were pretty ordinary, esp £25-30 a jug. And the music was all over the place - perhaps the DJ trying to fit in with the 'electic' vibe??

Overall I wouldn't go back for a special occasion. The 2 hour time limit on tables is unrealistic, particularly for large bookings.

When I told my so-hip-it -hurts friend I'd booked a table at Brazilian/Parisian/Shoreditchian whatever it is trendoid hang out 'Favela Chic,' he raised an eyebrow: 'sure you're hip enough for that?'Well the answer is no and I'm not sure anyone is. Wayfarers, Katherine Hammnet and loon pants are pretty much regulation here. You're not allowed in if you're even approaching biz-cash. The after work crowd need not apply, unless they work at Favela Chic in which case they will be more than usually attractive, rude and most probably French. Keeping out riffraff is an earnest business here. Hen and stag parties are fully out of the question; it was clearly stipulated to me that my party must comprise a gender mix.The resturant/bar/club hybrid is ideal for avoiding trecking around London but do not come in expecting a resturant experience. This is first and foremost a dance club. Long wooden tables are shoved round the edges and you will be shooed off your table the second the final bite of your authentically Brazilian, ridiculously oversalted food approachs your mouth. The service is DEFINITELY of the Shoreditch twat variety, but if you've got any sense you'll be pissed on overpriced caprihanas by 8.30pm anyway and won't care. Lets face it, you're not there to eat. Its just convenient to do so as there's no chance of getting in post 9pm. You have to be territorial about space but things improve once they shove the tables out the way post second sitting and the sweat drenched carnival begins. The original mix of salsa, drop beat electro mixes and motown classis is enough to keep you there til close at 2.The deco is half junk shop, half mardi. A bit schizo, like the music. Its the kind of place that can make you feel several rungs more young London than you actually are. Maybe even imagine that you're in Rio (but certainly not a favela as the ludicrous name implies).

I have never been so ripped off in my life by a restuarant. The "chicken Pie" for £10 was 1/8th of a 7 inche wide pie and a cm thick! And to top that. It felt like I was eating lemon curd (great for desert - not for dinner!). Staff did nothing about my complaint. The poeple next to me looked like they were going to eat their plates because the portions were so small. Their chef must have graduated from smirf school. Do not eat there.

I must say that I have never had such an appauling evening as experienced in Favela Chic. I would agree that to visit on a night out early on, (18:00-20:00), for a drink and a chat before you go on somewhere else would be fine, but don't eat there and don't plan on meeting uip with your friends there. The food is atrocious! Unauthentic Brazilian cuisine overpriced and lacking in taste. unfriendly doorman (not bouncers but the French guy with the clip-board) and a manager so uncomprimising that we ended up leaving and going to a bar in Hoxton bar & grill which was far better. Please don't spend your hard earned cash at Favela Chic, you will regret it.

I've been to Favela last week end and had such a great time.
The staff took great care of us, we had a really good diner and a nice night dancing after they get rid of the restaurant tables.
It's such a busy and friendly place, and the drinks and music are amazing.
I surely will come back!

How can the staff such fools?! Never been to a bar where the staff is so unprofessional, very very very arrogant and keep checking themselves out in the mirror. I can't believe the behaviour of the girl at the door...They actually let us in but without some kind of condescending jokes and attitude worth of a diva... Get a grip girl, you work at the door! I've seen strange door staff before but you kind usually reason with them (to a certain point) but Favela Chic should really owner should really think twice about whether he/she wants to be represented by this arrogant unprofessional staff...

I went to Favlea Chic for a friend's birthday party last week & had an amazing time.

Lovely crowd of totally up-for-it people going crazy to an eclectic mix of seemingly unrelated tunes that just seemed to work. The place properly went off!

Decor is worth a visit on its own. Bizarre.

Favela chic is fantastic. I have been on numerous occasions (including last Saturday) and always had a great night of dancing, drinking fine mojito’s and meeting fun people. Don’t know what the other reviewers are on about!
If you are looking for an evening out that has a genuine and unique personality, and a different and fun night out, Favela is the place.

Ok. You will not believe this.
Six friends eating awful overpriced food, but trying to enjoy it any way, after all when friends get together is always fun.
Until some waitress kicks you out of the table because a bigger group has showed up to eat.
I got told off, because I was taking to long to pay the bill, while my friend was trying to chew the supposed sirloin steak
£40 per head and kick out of the table, fantastic!

Usually we love Favela Chic but last night the music was terrible and there was hardly any dancing. The manager said he'd spoken to the DJ about it but they only played once a month. So I recommend you avoid nights when Nomad Disko is playing with U-cef & DJ Alia - they're hopeless!

I went to Favela Chic for my 22nd Bday this year with a load of mates and it was such a great night!! Everyone had a laugh. I must admit, I had my reservations due to there being so many bad reviews but turns out they are all wrong! Don't listen to them! If you like going out and having a good ol' dance in a fun and very quirky environment then you will love Favela Chic.

Favela Chic has a great atmosphere. We were there for dinner and yes, had to vacate at 9:30 but were well aware of that when we booked. The music is great - from Brazilian to Run DMC! The best thing about Favela Chic though is the passion fruit caipirinhas. Ask for them though as they're not even on the menu!

I had been to Favela Chic several times when it first opened and wasn't overly impressed - drinks selection limited and overpriced. Went here again last Friday (23rd Mar 07) for friends b'day. We had booked a table which we thought we had all night only to be asked to vacate it at 9.30pm! Service was slow and staff very confused. We'll not be visiting Favela Chic again - there is nothing chic about this place!

Favela Chic is Brazilian not French, with a Brazilian menu, Brazilian staff and Brazilian inspired interior. If you are looking for a French restaurant, don't go. If you're looking for a taste of life in the Favelas of Rio with a steak on the table and a Caiphirina in your hand then give it a go.

The Favela Chic doorman will only be rude to people who would probably feel uncomfortable once inside, like when you all change into second hand clothes off a washing line on Swaperama night. It's when you walk in and then strip-and-swap with complete strangers when the whistle blows.

Well, I am sorry but I love Favela Chic. It seems that it's not what most people feel, but I was amused by the fatty girl on the door, and the new guy who was a terrible waiter. Let's see if it's for the best. Both bar and restaurant staff are okay and everytime I go there I have a fantastic night!

There is something about that place. The DJ is really good and it's not that expensive! Favela Chis is a total mess but that's what I like about it. So thank you, Favela - keep going!

I wanted to write in defence of Favela Chic after reading some horrendous reviews. I have visited the establishment quite a number of times. I found the decor startling at first, but within half an hour I could have been anywhere in South America, not least due to the capirinihas.

The music is pretty much always good and I have found the staff to be lovely. Only once have I had a problem with one particular waitress but that all seemed to be fine when I inadverantly tipped her twice. The Favela Chic door lady is in fact lovely and very stylish. She has an unusual way which does un-nerve some punters but at least the bar is not full of the usual eejits.

The food is however overpriced and pretty crappy but it is fairly authentic to Portuguese Brazilian.

Favela Chic is a dreadful, awful, arrogant place. Having emailed and called to check a birthday group of 25 could get in before 10pm, 10 of our party were turned away. The people who turned up before 9pm were informed it was guestlists only, when I had been told there was no guestlist. When I spoke to the useless manager, they didn’t seem to give a damn that half our group was inside already.

Several groups walked in while we were waiting and we were told that they were dinner bookings, even though the last seating had already finished. The staff just seem to do what they want with no coherent door policy. They are rude and arrogant, and the sooner this nasty bar dies a death the better. And, Favela Chic is not even that good! Mediocre music and drink, and pretty dire food.

The food is at Favela Chic is over priced and not great. The drinks are very overpriced. The staff are rude. Having paid a small fortune for food and drinks we were then asked to leave our table, so others could eat. We explained that we ate there so that we could spend the night in the bar - at which point the French speaking staff discussed us and how to get us off the table, in French, standing next to us.

I then explained to them (in French) that they were not running a fast food restaurant and should not be so rude to their clients. They then argued with me for 10 minutes. Our group left Favela Chic annoyed and disgusted - our night was ruined.

After spending time in Brazil recently we thought a drink at Favela Chic would be a good idea. Upon arrival we were treated to an appalling display by a young, drunken, patron trying to get in the door. Thank god the door woman turned him away! Once in a great night was had by our group, and I would definitely recommend Favela Chic.

Favela Chic - one day you have to be on a guest list, the other day there is a private party. What's going on there? I think the people who are running this business don't understand the French concept of this club. If you want to be sure you will enjoy your night, just plan to go somewhere other than Favela Chic!

Favela Chic have the most obnoxious, unprofessional doortroll and staff who really are going to drive this place to bankrupcy due to their woeful lack of ability to run a decent bar. It is overpriced, disgustingly tacky, so stuck up it's own arse even for Hoxton and with absolutely no good reason.

I'd rather gouge my eyes out with a rusty spoon that even think about going to Favela Chic again. These people don't deserve your money or your presence.

Upon arrival for an inept pal's birthday at Favela Chic my first impression was of a dreadful, crammed, tacky hole with an amazing delusion of grandeur. The experiences of the food were luckily missed but I've never seen the 30 person group I was with so thoroughly peed off.

A few overpriced drinks later with the music cranked up, and I was drunk enough to forget I was in one of the most wretched places in the UK. Then a ray of light shone through the bleakness of it all - the more Damo hated Favela Chic (see entries below) the more it grew on me.

I got a friendly reception from the Favela Chic door woman and the drinks weren't too expensive. Sadly the food was rubbish as expected. The choice poor and the portions huge. Our food came an hour and a half we ordered and as soon as we had eaten our plates were wrenched away from us and our table vanished! Our dinning area had suddenly become the dance floor.

Though the music was good and the decor was fantastic, the Favela Chic bar staff were terrible. They were indeed, more interested in checking themselves out. The restaurant staff were excellent if not painstakingly slow.

Favela Chic is a very nice looking bar, however the staff are too busy checking themselves out. It's too expensive for the area. This place belonges in the West End!

There is no need for a fat burly door lady and the security say put your bags and coats in the cloakroom or they will chuck you out. The music is boring, and I seriously think Favela Chic staff are so self obsessed that they didn't think about the customer at all, just how the place looks.

Favela Chic - what a great idea for a bar. It’s just like a real Brazilian shantytown except there isn’t any dysentery, desperate poverty or horrific gun crime. Maybe Favela Chic could do a British version - a run-down housing estate with used syringes piled up in the corridors?

This bar is truly terrible. The concept is appalling, the staff are ridiculously rude, everything is overpriced. Don’t waste your money or time. One to avoid

Without a doubt the the most unpleasant dining experience in recent memory. Where to begin? Perhaps the doorman who initially refused to let me in claiming I was wearing a suit (which I should add I was not). You see in the the Favela no suits are allowed (though £40 bottles of Champagne are - strange that).

The food when it came was abysmal, particularly the feijoada which tasted and looked somewhere between dish water and mud. Favela Chic should do away with the food and stick to being a DJ bar, where it in part succeeds, only because the space is large enough to give it some atmosphere from the guests inside. That said I won't be going back.

Went to Favela Chic last Saturday and it was a complete shambles. 35 of us had booked to have a meal but I'd prefer to chew my own leg of before I'd go back there. We were squeezed into a space that would have only been suitable had we been Oompaloompas or cast extras from Time Bandits, meaning that some people had to stand to eat their food. Because the food took so long to arrive we were getting asked to leave the table before people had a chance to finish. Fortunately, as the food brought flashbacks from school canteen meals, nobody was too bothered about leaving theirs half finished.

To top it all off they decided to whack a 10% service charge on it. You'd think that spending over a grand in about 2 hours might entitle you to a little bit of respect from bar staff? Apparently not.

The music was good though.

Some big henchman kicked us off our table at Favela Chic that we had been sitting at for two hours after claiming it should have been reserved. He waited until after we bought another £40.00 round of drinks for 6, and guess what, there was nowhere else in the place to go - so we had to stand by the door to finish our drinks.

As our displeasure was very obvious, the sanctimonious witch on the door said that if we were not prepared to wait 10 minutes to communicate with her we must have a problem. The problem is that Favela Chic his is a shit bar, run by greedy, shitty inhospitable people.

Amidst the many other fine establishments in and around Shoreditch and Old St, Favela Chic is trying to stand out from the crowd with some rather unorthodox methods: underwhelming food, overrated drinks, try-hard interiors - and some of the rudest staff I have ever had the misfortune of encountering.

Special mention goes to the charming madam on the Favela Chic door. As far as first impressions go, employing someone as cold and humourless as this sorry example of humanity, indicates a woefully misguided attitude by the management of this place.
A night at this place is indeed a night wasted.

Favela Chic? Favela Crap more like! The best thing about this place was leaving it. The bar staff were arrogant, vile little men more interested in what they looked like than serving people; dancing and air kissing their little friends that came up and queue jumped. I'll give them something to kiss and it won't be air and will rhyme with farse!

The people on the door were pleasant enough but then so is the smell of human gas occasionally. Also why have they imposed a maximum height limit of five foot 4 for all the men? It is safe to say that I won't ever be going back to Favela Chic.

The music is cool at Favela Chic, the food isn't. We went for food on a Friday night and had to wait 90 minutes for a table to be seated at 10:30pm. The staff were friendly enough, but this didn't make up for the delay to start, and the menu is very limited and expensive for what it is.

As a venue to dance Favela Chic is cool, but don't go to eat, as the food isn't very good, and the music's up so loud you can't hear your friends talking across the table.

We went to Favela Chic on a cold/wet Wednesday in March having seen a review. When we arrived, there were only two other people having a drink, we use this area a lot as we live locally. Favela Chic was formerly a Barclays Bank which would have offered far better service than the 'I'm really cool' bar staff who's reluctance to serve us was somewhat challenging. The prices are high, especially for the area, which has so many more better bars in terms of service, ambience, cool & prices.

After we sat down the staff all sat down next to us to "chow down" on their early supper. Two other poeple came in, looked around and no one got up to serve them, so they walked out again, the staff (approx 8-10) saw this as being funny and munched on their food. We obviously only had one drink and on our way out advised a party of 4 how crap our very brief experience was and we suggested they go down to Great Eastern Dining Rooms. We then went to another new opening King William 1V in Shepherdess Walk, which was a complete contrast to Favela Chic.
I give Favela Chic 6 months before it closes down or re-invents itself as something else - what the staff need to remenber is that we are revenue and they are overhead and no, we won't be going back!

The food at Favela Chic takes ages to get served and is served cold and the price is abusive! If you got a table and ask for a drink make your way to the bar and get it yourself because the waitress/waiter are "..too busy to get it for you"! For a place that has just opened Favela Chic should be more friendly to their customers!
