Having read some quite unappealing reviews of the fentiman arms, I was brilliantly surprised by my experience. Not only were the staff very friendly & made you feel very much at home but the food was also of a high quality for a pub.

When i mentioned that this was my first visit to the pub and that i completely diagreed with some reviews to a member of staff (who turned out to be the new manager), she informed me that previously the pub had a reputation of having an unfriendly manner, but i can guarentee that this has been totally erased.

I had a wonderful night, and will be back with bells on

It's true, the staff can be outright rude. We waited very long time even though we'd booked a table. First other people in our group were told that there were no booking made. When I finally got them to admit to there being a table in my name, we sat down, waited to get to order, then waited again for a long time to get the food. My medium steak was cold, undercooked (bordering on blue and almost alive). Shame. Never going back again.

agree with the reviews here. staff are unreasonable.

there is only one decent staff member who seems to stay for any length of time, but recently we were treated to the kind of rude, unreasonable and petulant treatment I have read about so often.

was previously prepared to defend this place but after our last trip I don't think we'll be going back.

a shame as the pub itself is lovely - just not prepared to be treated like an enemy by hostile and unreasonable staff.

We just moved into the area and decided to have a nightcap at the Fentiman Arms. We arrived around 9:30pm. The bar was warm and cheery although it smelled strongly of fish, the plat du jour. We ordered 2 glasses of the recommended house red wine which was undrinkable. Sharp and acidic, no body flavour or nose to speak of and at 6 quid a glass not cheap either. We complained about the wine and the manager, a cheery chap with his shirt and stomach hanging out said "oh really?!?" and offered to change them for us. He then plonked two glasses on our table, without telling us what they were and walked off with our originals. These two glasses of wine tasted just as bad and I then ordered a beer. The manager passed the table several times without once enquiring if the wine was better. Eventually I asked what wine it was, and was told it was a 2003 Bordeaux. As a wine connoisseur I find this hard to believe, and when I explained it was just as undrinkable I was met with yet another impertinent and arrogant "oh really?!?". We then abandoned our drinks and told the manager we would never return and were met with yet another "oh really?!?". I'm disgusted at the service and thievery but if you want to escape the economic downturn - just head to Fentiman Arms in Vauxhall - they haven't heard of it down there.

The service at best is incompetently slow (even when it is quiet) and most normally rude too. When I was last there I had met with a friend to have some food and a few drinks. The bar would not take our food order, and despite 3 requests over half an hour no-one came to offer table service. To add to the insult we were then asked to to give up our table and stand so that a 'regular' could have our table. It was not that the table was reserved just that he thought they were more deserving of seats than us?! If the staff did not change over so frequently at this pub they might have recognised that I too am a regular and have been drinking at Fentiman Arms since Geronimo Inns took over. This is irrelevant though, why should there be a stepped level of customer service? Please, please take your money to the Wyvil or the newly opened Oval Lounge on the Clapham Road. Both places are infinitely more geunine and friendly.

The Fentiman Arms is a fairly pleasant pub but the service is at times incredibly slow and rude, perhaps partly due to the very high turnover of staff. Every time I go there they seem to be training someone new in how to use the till.

The food at the Fentiman Arms is also slightly overpriced. The pub seems to benefit more from a lack of other decent pubs in the area rather than being a good venue in its own right.

The bar at the Fentiman Arms looks good, they have a fantastic garden and the food can be good. However the food's not reliable and the drinks are expensive. Unfortunatley senior staff are very rude to customers and staff alike making the Fentiman Arms an uncomfortable environment in which to relax where service can be slow and hostile.
If it's a quick pint you fancy then this is the place to be, but word of warning-don't order a jug of Pimms!
