Fantastic venue. Went there with tastecard on a Tuesday night, no idea what to expect but was brilliant. Amazing setting, we sat on the second floor as first floor was being refurbished and it was a slightly gothic interior, long open rooms with classic wooden tables, white tablecloths and candelsticks. We sat by the window and the open fire, with views over the chimneytops of Notting Hill.

The waiter was excellent, talked us through the food choices and the wine options. The bread was so good we asked for two baskets of that instead of a starter, but for mains we had the duck (jersey potatoes and broccoli), and the steak (chips, mushrooms, rocket, tomatoes, hollandaise sauce). Both mains were delicious, some of the best food I've eaten in the last few years.

Genuinely impressed with this place, I'm already planning my next visit. Highly recommended.

The Restaurant is very beautiful with large candle sticks on the tables, after this visit i will NOT be returning.
3 of my friends were unable to make it in to London due to traffic and myself and my friend were then left on our own. We had bumped into 2 friends in the ground floor bar who said that they were happy to join us but for drinks only. We thought that we can always ask so we went upstairs and advised the waitress that we unfortunately were only going to be 2 eating (apologising profusely) and that our 2 friends would join if at all possible for drinks only - or we could take a smaller table for just the 2 of us. The waitress kindly advised that there was no problem at all and that we could go ahead and take the table we had booked. We waited for more than 30 min for our starter. Then 1 hour and still no main courses served. I got the attn of a waitress and i asked when our food was going to come. She apologised for the wait and offered us a glass of wine each as comp. Another 10 min and the mains arrived. Whilst the waitress put the food in front of us the female mngr walked over and started to shout "i can't believe that only 2 of you are eating.. i have people waiting for tables!"We finished our meal quickly and got the bill in a hurry. I went up to talk to the mngr about the ordeal. I again said that we clearly advised that due to unforeseen circumstances not everybody in the party had been able to come and that we had advised the waitress upon arrival and she said it was fine. So, not my fault that they let us sit down? They could have moved us to a smaller table or refused us - they did neither so why am i being shouted at?I said that if they wanted to turn around the tables, why let us wait for our food? All i got back was that we had received a free glass of wine.. not really my point. I also questioned that fact that the mngr came up to our table whilst the mains were served and loudly having a go at us. She just talked over me so i left.

First Floor is actually quite a nice place. I’d heard bad things about it, but I found First Floor perfectly pleasant.

I must say that I have a lovely time at the First Floor the staff are always smiling and happy, the food is great and most of the time they make my day. I can't wait to go back and just sit back and take the weight off my feet and let them do the rest. Thanks!
