The ViewLondon Review
A bit of a Jack of all trades, Flavas Lounge Bar and Grill is a decent neighbourhood bar for locals not wishing to travel further afield to party.
The Venue
Flavas is actually a pretty sleek, well-packaged venue. Spread across two floors, the large space has been well designed and could easily compete with many of central London’s better club spaces. The white decor and stripped back wooden floors make the large, airy space appear even bigger and the bar on the ground floor has a swathe of red behind it, making it really pop. There’s enough floor space for dancing but plenty of seating with high leather-topped stools by the bar and plenty of booth seating tucked neatly out of the way. The mezzanine level can be found atop a rather glamorous spiral stairway, leading to more seating and red leather sofas. The top floor affords views of the big screen below and a designer light feature that makes a pleasant change from the usual chandeliers. However the real highlight is their shisha garden, which is a very nice touch and has become a big part of its appeal.
The Atmosphere
Flavas Lounge Bar and Grill gets very busy after hours but arrive early and it’s pretty devoid of atmosphere, although you won’t have to fight to get to the bar and you’ll be guaranteed a seat. With a real clubby ambience it’s hard to see why they bothered with the food menu – it just complicates things. Earlier in the week they keep people coming through the doors with dance classes and events.
The Food
Pizza for £7.50, burgers for £6.50, sandwiches for less than a fiver: the food at Flavas Lounge Bar and Grill is simple and designed just to line the stomach on a budget before the big drinking begins. It won’t win any awards but if you want to settle in early, it gets the job done.
The Drink
The drink menu at Flavas Lounge Bar and Grill is very simple and you can’t help but feel like they’ve missed a trick in not offering an expansive cocktail list. However, the drinks are well priced and they do have draught lager and beer, albeit an unimaginative list of Fosters, Kronenbourg, Heineken, Strongbow and Guinness. Luckily, the bottled beer is a little more interesting. They have a quite lengthy wine selection, well priced at £15-£25 and three roses, which appear to be very popular with the punters. Of course, WKD and Smirnoff Ice rear their ugly heads.
The Last Word
Flavas Bar and Grill is a perfectly acceptable neighbourhood party spot for locals, but it’s not worth a special trip if you’re planning a big night out.
