I was a little worried, the first time I ventured into the Florence, I had been a fan of its predecessor, The Brockwell Park Tavern, for some time, and hoped some of the charm had remained. I was certainly impressed with the appearance, although looking like a text book Gastro pub, the addition of a large conservatory provided plenty of light, and gave a spacious feel to the place. Also I welcomed the new patio garden with all its shrubbery. My enthusiasm stopped there however. The food, although slightly better than average, is overpriced in my opinion, and the sweaty charm has been replaced with a slight air of pretension. Friendly banter with random drinkers was part and parcel of the Brockwell, but that has now gone too. Overall, despite the Florence offering a good range of beer and ciders, it now feels distinctly empty.
