I went here for dinner when it first opened and had a dreadful meal and vowed never to return. I decided to give it another try last week as its been a while since my last visit and what can I say, I won't be returning, expensive, poor service and the food not tasty at all. It was a great place before it was refurbished, shame. Lighthouse for me from now on

We had a birthday meal with my brother there in December 2011.
Not impressed at all.
The steak was randomly cooked and very chewy.
Wine was good though.

if your idea of a 3 course christmas dinner is:

starter- a bit of foie gras with two tiny peieces of toast

Main: 2 slices of (undeniably tasty) turkey on a bed of cabbage, and a couple of balls of mincemeat, easily devoured in under a minute, with a couple of boiled new potatoes on a side dish to share.

Desert: a measly bit of cheesecake

For an extorniate price, then by all means go. service was nothing to write home about, beer selection poor and decor very basic. i was still starving when i left, not what you expect after a 3 course christmas dinner. i appreciate it is a gastro pub etc etc, and the presentation was nice, but in short i would NEVER go back. just thank god it was a company thing, and i didnt have to part with any hard earned. the sad thing was, it was quite busy as well, obviously with people who have more money than sense.

Have to say a real disappointment, had expected more than this. The pub refurb looks good, nice atmosphere inside. However a severe let down on the service, inattentive staff, having to ask several times for missed side dish order, dessert menus, etc. was annoying to say the least. We also were never asked if we were happy with the everything, a cardinal sin in my eyes, if you are going to expect the customer to pay a 12.5% service charge.

The food itself, ox cheeks and the monkfish as mains, were different in quality. The ox cheeks, have to say were cooked to perfection, a mouthwatering soy glaze was very unusual. However the monkfish tagliatelle was half cooked, the fish also over cooked and there was little sauce, meaning the overall dish was quite dry.

Pudding - was good, but not mind-blowing.

Wont be returning, unless its a company meal!

What an amazing place to rendezvous with a friend for dinner! Travelling the UK from Oz I was quite surprised how easy this place was to find using public transport from the centre of London. One thing you will notice is this place is very health conscious .. I rate the toilets the cleanest I have ever seen in Europe!! I opted for the starter salad, a refreshing combination of flavours particularly on such a warm evening!! Prices were more than reasonable, but if you're looking for value for money you can't go past the signature Patrick's burger option as a main. Be sure to sample the house red or if you have a more particluar taste the Bordeaux is well worth a try. My friend had the coffee and chocolate mousse with frangelico foam and biscotti .. of course I had to sample and wasn't disappointed. To finish off definitely go for a short black and if you're still feeling peckish go for the cheese platter. All in all a perfect dining experience and I hope others will enjoy the opportunity to dine in such an intimate English pub environment. one suggestion the place would be well served to provide music or entertainment and we would have been there all night. First class!!

My fiancee and I went to the Fox and Grapes last weekend for lunch having been numerous times in the past. We were completely unaware that it had been refurbed and whilst it was a welcome relief in the dining area the pub side was a disappointment. Once seated and looking forward to a roast we were horrified to see that it was to set us back £20 each. They used to sell a good roast for £12.50. How could a wash of Farrow & Ball ever cause that kind of increase? Sadly, for our tummies, we went for fish and chips as we could not comprehend spending this ridiculous amount on pub grub. Whilst the fish was delicious, light and fresh, it was barely enough to feed a child. I counted ten chips accompanying mine. Plus, service charge was included in our total - grrr! My fiancee had to stop me subtracting it. The Fox & Grapes used to be a great rainy Sunday visit but now no more than a good example of rip off Britain!

My wife and I ate here for lunch shortly after opening and were sufficiently impressed to book a table for our wedding anniversary / my birthday a few months later.

A couple of months on and the quality of the food has gone, so much so that our meal wasn't even on a par with half decent pub grub.

My wife had the Langoustine Cocktail to start which was massively over salted, gritty and very mushy.  My starter was ok, the pork and apple pie.  For mains we had Ribeye steak and Pasta with Wild Mushrooms.  Both very bland dishes.  The steak at £28 was not seasoned and served on a pea gravy which made it look, feel and taste like a roast dinner.  The chips (actually potato wedges) were overcooked and made from bad potatos.  The pasta was mushy and flavourless.

When questioned (after the main) the very nice manager confirmed that the chef hadn't changed, apologised and removed tge food cost from the bill.  He offered complimentary desserts.  We had the cheese board which was ok (you can't go wrong here really) and the Treacle Tart which was like a flap-jack taken out of the oven too early...far too oaty.
A special occasion ruined by a very poor meal!

A real missed opportunity. The location and size of the place is great, but the refurb is smartly cold - all bare walls and wooden furniture and floors that make it look like a loud, echoey All-Bar-One. There is nowhere you would feel comfortable having a drink, it is no longer a pub. Would be much improved by bringing back warmth with soft furnishings, rugs or something similar.

The food is variable. The fish and chips we had was very good, but the burger was small and insipid. You'd expect more for the price, a lot more. Desserts were tasty, especially the treacle tart, but portions mean for the price.

Service was inattentive, bordering on rude. We were left to stand in the doorway for several minutes before anyone paid attention to us. They were slow taking orders too.

There was also an ugly cold storage unit trailer parked in front of the entrance - not a pleasant view and not great to know your meal spent most of its time sitting on the road outside.

My only hope is that they take on board all the feedback people have been posting - they need to take lessons in warmth (both people and interiors) from the other local pubs, and they need to make the food more generous for the premium price they are asking.

I visited Fox & Grapes with 1 of my colleagues for Lunch on Good Friday. In spite of the busy atmosphere the waitress was extremaly helpful and friendly. We ordered Pork Pie and a Warm Goat's cheese salad to start, both realy enjoyable. For the main we have ordered Lemon Sole and Steak.I have asked for it well done as I can not eat red meat. When it arrived I was very pleased as the meat was perfectly cooked, well done as asked and still very tender. Lemon Sole looked very nice my only advice will be to put the garnish on the menu as is not necessary to order a side dish.To sum up our meal we had a Choccolate Brownie, perfect dessert to share and realy tasty. It came with Pistachio ice cream which was a realy nice combination. The ambience was nice although a bit to loud.Good food, simple wine and polite staff. Will definately come back, perfect place to sit down and catch up with your friends.

We paid a visit to the Fox and Grapes for my partners birthday last Thusday 21st. We had a fantastic evening. The atmosphere was lovely and the service excellent. I had goats cheese to start followed by lemon sole which was cooked to perfection. All four of us had different starters & mains and all thoroughly enjoyed each dish. We'll definately be back again soon

I knew the team behind Hibiscus had taken over this pub and looking forward to a fabulous evening. Sadly nothing lived up to the high expectations, the service was appalling and extremely arrogant! The food sadly started poor with an ice cold runny egg yolk in the wild boar scotch egg and nose dived from there onwards. At £16 for pollack I expected it to come out moist and crisp skin...... i received something that looked like it was cooked the day before and 3 chunks of grilled leeks. My wife's lamb rump rather than pink and succulent was quite simply boiled, poor Lamb. Did not attempt the desserts on our ghastly starters and mains.

Unfortunately we both shall not be back.

We went here with high expectations following the refurb. My boyfriend had heard good things about one of the chefs.

We were disappointed.

We were seated right next to the door so every time somebody came in there was a big gust of cold wind. Terrible place to put a table. The area by the door I would describe as a canteen style dining area, disorganised, cold, noisy. It also smelled of public toilets. We did not see the area at the other side of the bar so can't comment on that part.

I ordered a hot chocolate to keep warm! It arrived luke warm and in a small tea cup. I had to ask for it to be reheated. Luckily when it came back it was in a bigger mug, someone must have realised the tea cup wasn't appropriate!

I ordered the hot pot, the only vegetarian option on the menu. It was basically an overpriced broth, with a bit of cabbage and carrot and potato floating around. My boyfriend had fish and chips which was tasty but it wasn't amazing for the price they charged.

There were lots of waiting staff milling around but they didn't seem to be paying any attention when we required them. It's almost as if they had too many staff and so they didn't know what their roles were. I didn't agree with the included service charge, and would have asked for it to be removed but my boyfriend is too polite to say anything!

I left hungry and disappointed.

I think there are much better pubs in Wimbledon.

I won't be going back here.

Funny how the last 2 reviews above mine suddenly become very positive after a slew of negative ones. Am sure they're perfectly legitimate!?
I'm afraid I'm going to join the neg bunch.
We arrived early but were turned away by a rude waitress. With a small baby on board, that wasn't appreciated. It was hot, loud, with very average food that didn't deserve the price. A small slice of treacle tart came in at a whopping £7. We'd travelled for an hour to get to this pub and wished we'd stayed closer to home. I hope the rather nice chap who seemed to be managing the place turns it round.

My wife and I had a very rude and disappointing experience at the Fox and Grapes this Sunday night. We popped in for a drink and found a table. We were quickly asked to move from the table as the guests who had booked the table had arrived. By the time we had finished our drinks and were ready to leave we noticed that no one had in fact arrived to sit at said booked table. So why make us move? Further to this the venue lacks any warmth and friendliness. An up-scale ridiculously over-priced 'pub' which clearly only welcomes the posh of Wimbledon village. Go to the Crooked Billet or the Hand in Hand for how a pub should be run and how a pub should look. Cheaper drinks and a much better atmosphere.

Ruined a great local and a local institution. Not a pub and not a michelin starred restaurant. Food is no better than a decent chain ( chez Gerardish ) which you would at least expect to make up for the lack of atmosphere, warmth and cosiness that represent the best of british pubs. Moreover, you have to book two weeks in adcance just to find the place half empty. Have these guys ever been to the enterprise on walton street? Might be worth the trip before they are out of business by next year.

Visited early on a Sat night 6pm with party of 5. First impressions were good as what appears to be a no expense spared refurb impressed us all. This was however short lived. Being the only dinners in the place and with what can only be described a small army of staff one would expect perfect service. We were seated and given menus promptly but were not offered drinks and had to call over the waitress for drinks and a wine list. We only ordered mains but were not offered any starters or bread. When the mains came they were very disappointing. Some examples. Fish and chips- very average, poorly presented and generally on a par with a Weatherspoons, despite costing an eye watering £13.50! Sausage and mash- Lovely cumberland ring sausage on a mash which had the consistency of soup, honest! This was completely hidden to the eye by the erroneous amount of onion in the gravy doused on top. Again nothing spectacular, and very over priced. We did not opt for deserts! Bill was £154. £17 of which was a 12.5% service charge which I asked to be removed due to the poor service received. I did explain I would like to leave a tip of a lesser value however. The waitress then called the manager Cedric Bosi over who initially very rudely said he would not remove it and that we had to pay it as it was written on the menus?!?!?! I then educated him regarding the law and he reluctantly removed it. If you are reading this Claude Bosi I advise you to act fast on these fundamental flaws!

As a "pub or Bar", which is the clasification under which it is listed, I was totally disappointed by our reception at the Fox & Grapes last night. The refurbishment is stunning, but some of the staff need to lighten up too. Yes, we'll give it a try as a restaurant (but the waitress even snatched the sample menu from our hands whilst we perused - so reliant on their new website), but please recategorise this. It is no longer a pub.

Its brand new interior gives it a bit of a sharp feel, however when thelights are dimmed and the place fills up it begins to sound abit more like a pub. Ale is too expensive but I say that about most pubs these days.

Food looks most interesting. Tripe au gratin takes me back to my childhood and my dad eating similar. Must give it a go

I was deeply disappointed by this. Wimbledon has plenty of chain eateries and pubs doing decentish food but what it lacks is a seriously decent, mid-priced, independent restaurant or gastropub (eg Sonny's in Barnes or The Anchor & Hope at Waterloo). The refurbishment of the Fox & Grapes promised to fill this gap but sadly, it hasn't. We went for lunch and the menu is short which is commendable but choice of mains left little outside fish & chips, sausage & mash and steak and chips. Starters were more promising and we had a nicely done goose rillette and a beetroot and goats curd salad. The mains were however disappointing. Given the choice, I had fish & chips - nice beer batter but nothing spectacular at £13.50 and the mullet at £17.50 was frankly poor. We'd asked our waitress if it came with anything and she didn't know so we ended up ordering an unnecessary side dish of vegetables. The selection of 3 cheeses at £8.50 was one of the most over-priced dishes I can think of - 3 tiny pieces of cheese. So with a couple of glasses of their most moderately priced wine we racked up a £100 bill. That, for fish & chips off Wimbledon Common is a bit of a shocker! It's a very nice place to sit but for a menu that doesn't offer much more than what is already available in Wimbledon at more reasonable prices, I don't think I'll be making the trip back in the near future. Can't see how it is going to attract just drinkers - the bar snacks do look the best bet - great pork scratchings.
