The ViewLondon Review
From the outside it doesn’t look like much. However, once inside the Fox and Hounds shows attention to detail with basic offerings well executed.
The Venue
On a quiet, leafy street between Olympia and Brook Green, Fox and Hounds feels like a village pub in the middle of London. Pleasing on the eye, the interior is a subtle mix of green and yellow paint, beige wallpaper and lots of polished wooden tables and chairs. Flat screen TVs (with Sky Sports) share wall space with tasteful old black and white photographs of the area. It’s clean and in good knick.
The Atmosphere
Staff are a bit cool at Fox and Hounds, as are the patrons who keep themselves to themselves - signs saying 'no soiled working clothes allowed' and 'over 21s only' set the tone. There is a pool table and darts - so fun is encouraged in reasonable doses - but drunken revelry isn’t tolerated. Overall, it feels like a tightly run, ship-shape kind of place.
The Drink
The bar at Fox and Hounds has one of the shiniest, most ordered displays of drink in London. Spirits hang in their cradles and alcopops, bottled beers and fine wines are displayed for all to see. There is a reasonable selection of all - draught beer includes the usual standbys with a few specialty ales to round things up. Prices are fair.
The Last Word
Fox and Hounds is a clean, well-run pub. It defines its clientele and makes no bones about who it wants to attract, but they serve their market well. You may even find punters politely returning their empty pint glasses to the bar before they leave. That say’s it all!
