Fox at Connaught is the closest thing to a neighbourhood boozer in this postcode, which is a refreshing break from the norm in an area that is often accused of having no soul.

The Atmosphere
In what appears to be an historic building, the Fox at Connaught provides a touch of authenticity that makes it stand out from its corporate neighbours. Sure it’s a bit dirty, but it appears to be well loved and the patrons look like they live in the area as opposed to the usual travelling business types that populate the local hotel bars. There is nothing remarkable about the interior other than the well-spaced plasma screens connected to Sky Sports. A couple of VLTs sit in the corner if you're feeling lucky.

The Food
The menu at Fox at Connaught is small but offers enough to fill a hunger void. Antipasti for two is a nice touch at just under £7 with olives, mozzarella, ham and aioli with organic bread. Otherwise, you have reasonably priced burgers, club sandwiches and nachos. On Sundays they offer a three course lunch for just £9.95.

The Drink
There’s a decent selection of beers on tap including Strongbow and Kronenbourg Blanc. For lager fans the San Miguel draught is a refreshing option at just over £3 a pint. A lengthy list of cocktails for a fiver present more options and there is a limited selection of spirits or wines by glass or bottle, although it’s doubtful they sell much Veuve Cliquot at £50 a bottle, although you never know.

The Last Word
Given the paucity of residents in this stretch of the Thames, Fox at Connaught is surprisingly homely. A local boozer for those who call this patch home.
