The ViewLondon Review
Fox @ Stratford - the East End branch of the chain - makes a bid for glory in the home of the London Olympics. The VenueSituated just past Broadway, the nearby Poundland means there’s no chance of easily mistaking this high street for New York’s famous theatreland but it is at least in close proximity to the station, cinema and shops. More compact than its counterpart down the road at the Excel, Fox @ Stratford is faithful to the chain’s bold purple colour scheme and the straight-edged interiors match its unfussy logo.
The AtmosphereWith few venturing from Central London out to the east, this bar caters largely for the professionals of the area, so expect plenty of sensibly dressed estate agents making for a comfortable but staid atmosphere. More locals come out to play in the evenings but the MTV soundtrack still makes for an uninspired night’s listening; in fact, Fox @ Stratford is often at its liveliest when showing a match.
The FoodFox @ Stratford offers a good variety of reasonably priced bar food and even has a separate eating section, which is nice and peaceful. Don’t take the lack of diners as a reflection of the quality, dishes like the lime and chilli fishcakes are particularly good.
The DrinkWith a decent cocktail menu and adequately equipped with beers, spirits and staff, it isn’t found wanting behind the bar, especially during happy hour.
The Last WordSolid if unspectacular, Fox @ Stratford is currently one of the East End’s premier bars, but it’s hard to imagine it remaining that way come 2012.
