Obviously this is a chain, but Mr Dettori I wouldn't want my name above the door... First thing to greet you (way before the staff, who were far too busy having a nice chat) is the smell of dirty cooking fat. 6 tables of sad looking diners crammed together in the ugly cavernous space, obviously for the waiting staff's convenience so they wouldn't have to take one more step than necessary. After an age to get their attention waitress/waiters were brusque or over familiar.. nothing in between. 'Not allowed' to serve burgers rare (so why ask how you want them cooked), food finally arrived dry, over done and over mayo'd. At least we identified the smell of the dirty cooking fat .. it was the chips. As we waited 20 minutes for the bill the bouncers / car park attendants from the surrounding hotels / stadium all popped in for a flirt with the waitress.. good job she had nothing better to do. Overpriced, bad service, disappointing food in an ugly environment. Oh, and the loos were dirty. Avoid.
This was the second time we visited Frankie's.
And for the second time we got disappointed.
Although the food we had was very good (the Burger my husband ate was average, I had the best Gnocchi Genovese I ever ate), but the service was terrible.
Even though there were maybe 10 tables occupied, we waited for service 10-15 minutes, even after getting attention of a waiter, we had to wait.
I ordered another drink that never came.
We felt like Personae non Grata.
Where do I start? Well if I could give Frankies Sports Bar and Grill no stars I would! Firstly we asked if we could sit at a nicer table compared to the one we were plonked at in the entrance. After being seated about 15 minutes the waiter came and took our food order having never being asked if we would like any drinks. Bear in mind there was only half the tables set and a handful of customers there. I found the menu quite confusing and the waiters insight wasn't any more helpful. I opted for the calzone, thinking I couldn't go wrong with that and my boyfriend had a burger asking for it medium to well done. We were absolutely famished and looking forward to a decent meal. We had thought about going when we were sat there for so long in the beginning but decided to stay because we (wrongly) presumed that the food we be good having Marco Pierre White and Frankie Dettoris name attached to it. We ordered calamari for starters, for £8.50 I did expect a little more than a few rings on a very small plate. A dip would have been nice, I did ask for mayonnaise but waited too long. The calzone, well I have never eaten anything so disgusting in all my life I wouldn't have fed it to a dog. When I complained to the waiter he just asked what exactly was wrong with it, my response was everything, he muttered sorry and took the plate full of food away. The calzone was salty, the dough tasted uncooked and the little filling there was tasted like mush. The burger was pink and didn't taste of much. We waited another 15 minutes before we were able to ask for the bill. Whilst we were waiting another waiter came over and asked if we wanted dessert or coffee. Finally when the bill came we were surprised to see we were being charged for the barely touched calzone. Too tired, hungry and disappointed we didn't care to argue and paid for it. I have never had such a horrendous dinning experience in all my life and wouldn't recommend Frankies Sports Bar and Grill to anyone.
While staying at the Copthorne in Chelsea in July/August 2010, we decided to try both Frankie's and Marco's for dinner.
What a mistake! We were part of a group of Australian's on a coach tour and that evening spent several hundred pounds on drinks and meals in Frankie's. The meal was terrible, the pasta's so salty they were very unpleasant. The salads soggy and very sparse. The staff rude when we complained about our meal and we were nearly pushed out of the door when other patrons agreed with our sentiments.
A couple of nights later we tried Marco's. Very over priced for an average meal. I think a bottle of water at 3.50 pounds ( and not even cold) a bit rich.
Neither was worth the price and we will never go there again. If staying at the Copthorne or Millennium go for a stroll down Fulham Road and visit the pubs or the Indian restaurant just down the road. Much nicer, more friendly and far better value.
The Copthorne and Millenium were very good hotels with excellent facilities and friendly and helpful staff. Pity about their next door neighbours.
I love it here. It's got a great atmosphere, especially when they're playing a big match.
The walnut and gorgonzola salad to start is delicious and my bacon and cheese burger had a fried egg in it - yum!
The portions are enormous though, so you should build up an appetite before you go. The outdoor bit at the front is chilled out, good to get away from the bustle of Fulham.
Also found the staff to be really friendly. I'd definitely go back.
Great service and location but the food is very poor and expensive. Dried out burgers & chicken breasts and even Pizza Hut makes better pizzas!!
