I agree with the past reviewers. I never liked this place but God can a pub go through a radical transformation.

The owner's sacked all the bar staff. Filled them with gems and the kitchen had a complete refit.

The food is lovely although it doesn't compare to the white horse across the road. Why this pub has 5 stars is for the garden alone.

The best Garden pub you could ever hope to drink in. The atmosphere during the week nights and weekends is fantastic.

The gate and white horse offers the complete Hamsptead experience.

The atmosphere is ok, the staff are friendly enough, and this place would be fine for a drink and a chat. But if you’re hungry, go somewhere – anywhere – else. Really. The Garden Gate served me the worst meal I have had in a long time. I had a salmon salad, which cost £7.90 and was almost inedible. Completely flavourless and swimming in oil – yuk. Plus it took half an hour to arrive.

I happen to agree with the bar staff - if you want coffee go to a coffee shop, if you want a pint go to the pub. The Garden Gate is great. The selection of beer is fantastic (loving the Franziskaner Weissbeir), as is the food, the atmosphere and the beer garden at the Garden Gate.

The Garden Gate is a nice pub that is severely let down by the most unpleasant bar staff I have ever encountered.

Order non-alcoholic drinks at your peril. You will be berated by the aggressive barman with a height complex and his curly-toupee clad pal, and told that you should go over the road to a cafe if you want tea or coffee.

The 2 particular members of staff I encountered on Saturday 6th May must both have been off sick with a nasty case of personality-disorder on the customer-relations training day. Don't bother giving people like this your hard-earned cash.
