The ViewLondon Review
Dubbed by many as the new Elbow Room in Angel, the Chinese whispers aren’t quite on the mark.
The Venue
Simple but elegant, the layout at Glass Works is split between the restaurant, bar area and balcony. Leather sofas sit beside the main window so people in the queue can see your social activities from outside, which for some could be a bit awkward. The restaurant area quickly fills up with revellers who are too tired to dance and big groups who want to escape the bar area. The lighting is attractive, and there are plasma screens dotted around showing music videos and commercial advertising.
The Atmosphere
Unfortunately, there can be a mundane vibe in the bar area as lads stand around awkwardly gazing into space whilst girls enjoy each others company and dance the night away. However, the bar staff are pleasant and up for a spot of banter, which is a big bonus for any London bar or club.
The Music
The music at Glass Works is eclectic. Depending on when you go, a healthy mix of hip hop, 80s classics and house are pumped out through the night. However, regular attendees will note that the DJ has a tendency to play the same tunes week in, week out and the mixing isn’t always spot on. That said, mainstream music fans will enjoy the commercial vibe.
The Drink
A big bonus to Glass Works is you can actually afford to buy drinks all night long thanks to the cheap and cheerful prices. There is also a wide selection of cocktails and a selection of wine with some higher-priced options for those who like a good-quality tipple.
The Last Word
Glass Works is much like caviar in that it’s an acquired taste. The mature clientele means that sometimes the vibe is sometimes lacking but on the whole it’s a pretty solid night out.
