Fantastic little traditional tipple store; you feel like you're walking into your own living room, with friendly regulars and eclectic group of bar staff, some glowing and some superficially grumpy! The piano now plays on a Tuesday, Thursday and Friday night. The songs rarely vary, however this only adds to the ambiance, with the regulars belting out their favourite familiar rhythms.
They no longer serve food, apart from bowls of roasties on a Sunday and the expected bar snacks, but the clientele are of the sort that require only a good selection of English ales and a smooth house G&T. Family run, you are always made to feel welcome at the Eagle (unless ofcourse you are under eighteen, since they have no childrens license, SCORE!) and I have had many a good night in there. You instantly feel part of the community on the lane, most of which have been comrades for many, many years.
If you're looking for a bit of hard house to help down those cheap pints so that you can pull the easy barmaid, this isn't the place for you. It's the Golden Eagle, not the Gastro Eagle. If you're effortlessly cool with a penchant for retro dwellings, get down there immediately, waste no more time!No matter what age, whether you're an old tymer or a youngster who enjoys the atmosphere of a real cockney boozer, this is the pub to go to.I only gave five stars because ten wasn't an option.
The Golden Eagle is the one and only traditional pub in Marylebone offering true local flavour, true locals and old time piano playing Thursday, Friday & Saturday. Good beer and good sing-along company - except for grumpy Gary behind the bar!
The Golden Eagle is one of this proper traditional pubs that are dwindling down to a select few these days. Honest, British grub and plenty of pints makes the Golden Eagle an essential London stop-off.
