Green Note is a small jazz venue near Camden with excellent vegetarian food and cocktails, a more personal club than other, better known jazz venues, and a lively atmosphere.

The Venue
Green Note is located a short walk from Camden tube. You enter via a room with tables, where you can sit and eat and is empty more often than not since you can’t see the band from here. However, this offers an excellent part of the bar for sitting and hearing the music without having to pause conversation to listen.

For those who are really into their live blues or jazz it is more worthwhile to sit in the main room near the stage, although entry to this area is sometimes charged. In the main room there is a bar at one end where drinkers can sip a variety of cocktails or beers, or tables and a bench with luxurious cushions running the length of the wall. Customers sitting or standing in this area will be expected to pay special attention to the band. If you are keen to have a seat it is advisable to book a table to eat at in advance.

The Atmosphere
Green Note has such an enjoyable atmosphere that people frequently return. A variety of age groups eat here, often for special occasions like birthdays or for an alternative night out. The bar staff are friendly and cheerful. The vibe is lively and it is particularly good fun to be so close to the band. The music varies from folk and blues to roots, world, jazz, country, bluegrass and work by singer-songwriters.

The Food
The food at Green Note is organic and, although it's vegetarian, it is inventive enough for meat eaters to enjoy. Although this is slightly more expensive than food in the average bar, it is high quality and nicely presented, portions are often not very large so expect to order a few dishes (prices range from about £2-£5 for individual portions of tapas). The dishes are Mediterranean style, ranging from tapas to main courses, salads, and desserts. It is worth coming early to eat before watching the bands.

The Drink
Drinkers here range from beer sipping music devotees to those out for a lively night on the town drinking wine or cocktails. The standard cocktails are on offer and made with good quality ingredients, and although they are slightly pricey they are worth trying. Excellent mint tea and other soft drinks are on the menu, too.

The Last Word
Green Note is a lively venue, offering excellent, spontaneous music without neglecting the finer details of food, drinks and good service. It’s highly recommended for a different night out, and a more personal concert venue.
