Went on Saturday the 16th of feb for dinner with some friends - Haven't been for years and was very much looking forward to it.. .. What a thoroughly depressing experience... Met by an aggressive brain dead barmaid, who only had a basic grasp of English and no grasp at all about how to deal with the public or work behind a bar - We turned up half an hour early for our 9.30 pm table and was told, " we have to order NOW as the kitchen was closing"... We had to persuade her and her colleague to lay a table for us in the back, as she suggested eating at the bar.... they reluctantly did this, then we waited 50 mins for god awful food served by terrapin brain - on paying the bill we noticed that one of the dishes ( that was inedible) was £5 cheaper off the bar menu, when we questioned this we were told sarcastically that it's the same dish and I TOLD YOU TO EAT AT THE BAR!
One of party was writing an article on London for American GQ, had to beg her no to write anything, in an attempt to defend what was once a fantastic pub...
Left embarrassed, confused, hungry and about £140 lighter...

What a shame...

I went to the Grenadier last night and I hate to whinge but it must have been the worst meal I have had in a long time. The fish pie was so bland it was like dishwater, the fish was tasteless and the vegatables were all undercooked, and I like them firm. The hot chocolate fudge cake was stale - that's why I think they heated it up.

I really have never complained about a restaurant before, but seriously Grenadier was just awful.

I have been going to the Grenadier for years. It has a cosy atmospheric bar and a very traditional British pub style. The Grenadier is in an unusual location at the end of a picturesque mews. Sometimes you can feel like you're in the country as it is very quiet there. It is popular with tourists, particularly American tourists. The restaurant at the Grenadier serves typical English food but in my view is not that good and is somewhat overpriced. My only real gripe is that the staff are generally useless and unhelpful. On my last visit I was served a pint of Bombardier which was completely disgusting and undrinkable. On taking it back, the girl behind the bar told me that all bitter was disgusting and refused to either refund me or give me another pint! Otherwise, the Grenadier is worth a visit.

The Grenadier took some finding, but once we managed it was a lovely experience. Cosy fireplaces, lovely staff and nice food.
I’d thoroughly recommend the Grenadier to anyone.
