The ViewLondon Review
H-bar in the boutique-style Hempel Hotel is a great place to have a drink. Your mind will suddenly feel very clear from all the stresses of the day at work, and not just because of the alcohol. The VenueH-bar at The Hempel Hotel is hidden away in a stucco building in the heart of Bayswater in a garden square near Hyde Park. It’s so totally hidden away so that even a local resident might not be able to find it easily. On fine days you can take your drink out into the square, where a Zen garden has been created with water displays and trim lawns and hedges. However, most people, especially in the winter, sit in the cosy relaxing bar with its deep, burnt sienna-coloured velvet armchairs and sofas that you can practically curl up in. Otherwise, if you're in a perkier mood you can sit up high on stools at the bar itself and watch your drink being mixed with expertise.
The AtmosphereThe atmosphere created at H-bar is so special it’s like going into a different world. The East meets West design and neutral, earthy colours make a totally pure and uncluttured effect so you’ll feel very serene and calm whilst in the bar. Without a doubt the bar is the epitome of chic and style - it has low lights, coffee tables with candles on them and light background music so you can have a good conversation. Whilst sipping your drink you’ll will find yourself in the company of trendy locals and jet-setters from all over the world.
The DrinkYou can order a cocktail at the bar or, if you prefer, have your drink in the lobby, where the housekeeper, clad in Prada, will light the fire for you if you ask. The cosmopolitan at this bar is served in an unusual, very tall designer glass with a wavy stem. It is fresh and clean tasting and you can parctically smell the fruit in the cranberry juice as you lift the glass to your lips. This works well with the incredibly smooth, fresh vodka and the tangy bit of the unsweetened lime juice.
The frozen margaritas are also very good thanks to the high quality tequila. The salt on the rim of the glass does not detract from the flavour of the tequila or the Cointreau which lends a slight hint of bananas to the cocktail, making it slightly sweet and a nice contrast with the sharpness of the lemon juice and the lacing of salt. At the same time the temperature of the ice preserves the subtle flavour of the tequila making it sharp and refreshing.
However, the cocktails do not come cheap and cost something in the region of £30.00 for two. Somehow, though, the ambiance is so special and relaxing that buying an expensive drink there occasionally seems worth it.
The Last WordA drink at H-bar is an experience to remember for high style cocktails in a glamorous venue.
