Well, not sure what to make of the official review of Holland's Wine Bar... so here's mine... One of two up-market wine-bar/ restaurants in the road, this one , also called Genie's after the proprietor, who is also the masterchef, is my favourite.

The food is by and large always excellent, not overpriced, but the house wine comes in at approx £14 a bottle. There is a selection of 330ml bottled beers, the usual suspects at £2.70, so if you want to put a beer or two down the hatch first, go to the Prince of Wales diagonally opposite, or the Castle along Holland Park Avenue.

Genie does open 7/7, but some nights can be very quiet, like no-one in there! A cool jazz singer/pianist, Ebonard, plays every Friday and Saturday from 8pm, and the venue stays open until gone midnight on those nights. You can book for weddings or birthdays, and these take place upstairs, which although not massive, is by no means as small as Mr Gough's review indicates.

So a great place to bring a partner for an intimate evening, or a group of family or friends for a good evening out. Decor's a bit fussy, with lots of framed photo collages of past New Year's Eve celebrations- somewhat irrelevant as most of the people in them have moved on! But well worth a visit if you are in the area, and Genie is always very welcoming and attentive.
