A sophisticated, high-end bar in central Sutton. Not something you would expect to hear in the same sentence.

The Venue
The Ivory Lounge is a large venue with a high-end finish. Lots of seating is available in the form of cosy booths or more formal tables and bar stools. At the back of the room is a lounge area with settees, which is also quite close to the DJ booth and dance floor, a great place to flop after a boogie. A courtyard garden is also available to the side of the building which is popular during warmer evenings.

The Atmosphere
This is a trendy bar, and with a clientele consisting of over 25s during the evenings, it is a little more sophisticated than some other venues in this town, where the crowds tend to be younger. As it’s open until 1am at the weekend, it’s a place where people tend to spend their entire evening and not just as a stop off on their way to another bar or club. Yummy mummies and their offspring visit during the daytime – particularly Wednesday afternoons when they can take advantage of the 20% discount especially for them. And local workers and shoppers pop in during lunchtimes and as a pit stop before the commute home.

The Food
The food is good, the menu varied and the prices are reasonable for the quality that is dished up. Starters cost from £3.45 for soup of the day. Deli platters are around the £7 mark and this is a great sharer or healthy main meal. The sea bass beurre blanc and baby spinach with new potatoes in a white wine and butter sauce is excellent at £12.45, but a firm favourite is the chicken jambalaya at £10.95. There is also a wide range of salads, pasta and burgers.

Desserts are all £4.45 with choices like lemon tart proving irresistible.

The Drink
There are around seven choices of draught beer, including the likes of Peroni, Carlsberg and Guinness. The average price is £3.50 a pint. In bottles you can find the likes of Tiger and Sol.

Cocktails are a real crowd puller here and there are plenty to choose from, as well as a detailed ingredient list to help you to pick your poison. These are all £4.95 each and jugs to share are £9.95. Shots are also on offer priced £2.50 each or three for a fiver.

House wine starts at around £11 a bottle, with Beaujolais available at £15.95 a bottle. Fizz costs from £18.95 a bottle, rising to £24.95 for prosecco. The house champagne is £31.95 and £48.95 for a bottle of Laurent Perrier.

The Last Word
A great bar, one that brings a bit of sophistication to Sutton.
